TCC solenoid location

Where is the TCC solenoid located on a '98 Mazda B4000 4X4? Do I need to drop the trans pan to get to it?

Thanks,
Sonny

Racerguy 04-07-2005 11:52 PM

Yes, it's in the valve body.

mb4k 04-08-2005 08:30 AM

Thanks for the reply. Is the solenoid easily changed once the pan is dropped...say, for one with moderate mech skills? Or, does the valve body need to be removed.

Racerguy 04-08-2005 08:56 AM

If I remember right you have to remove the valve body but it's been a long time since I've done one so I'm not positive.
Anyone else know?

µ 7. CAUTION:
The TCC solenoid and converter modulator valve may pop out of its bore. This may damage the solenoid or converter modulator valve.

CAUTION:
Shift solenoid (SSC) may pop out of its bore. This may damage the solenoid.

Remove the shift solenoids.

1 Remove the wire harness.

2 Remove the solenoid clamp screws.

3 Remove the solenoid clamp.

4 Remove the appropriate solenoid(s).

Installation

µ 1. Install the new solenoid(s).

µ 2. CAUTION:
The solenoid clamp must be installed in the TCC and EPC solenoid grooves, shift solenoid pockets and the No. 204 plug.

Install the solenoid clamp.

1 Position the solenoid clamp on the main control valve body.

2 Install the solenoid clamp screws.

µ 3. Connect the six solenoid electrical connectors.

1 Connect shift solenoid SSA, SSB, SSC, CCS electrical connectors.

2 Connect the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid electrical connector.

3 Connect the electrical pressure control (EPC) solenoid electrical connector.

µ 4. CAUTION:
Excessive pressure may break the retaining pins.

Install the main control valve body wire loom.

l Align the retaining pins to the holes in the solenoid clamps and gently press in the main control valve body wire loom guide and protector.

µ 5. Install the transmission fluid filter.

1 Install the transmission fluid filter.

2 Install the transmission fluid filter screw.

µ 6. Install the transmission fluid pan.

1 Position a new transmission fluid pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan.

2 Align and install the transmission fluid pan.

l Loosely install the transmission fluid pan screws.

µ 7. Tighten the transmission fluid pan screws.

8. Lower the vehicle.

9. Connect the battery ground cable.

10. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level and check for proper transmission operation.

l Use MERCON® V; Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM meeting Ford specification MERCON® V;.

Thanks Ken00!...I can always depend on you for a detailed answer.

OOPS!...I just noticed that procedure was for a 4R44E. My owners manual says I have a 5R55E. Is there any difference in the procedure?

Sonny

No gear change after installation new solenoids

Vehicle: 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L, 4R44E automatic transmission.

Problem: Car is idling in park, I put into any gear nothing happens.

Process of Work Performed: Turned car off (battery still connected), Dropped transmission fluid pan, changed filter and installed new (refurbished) solenoids - 4 x shift solenoids, 1 x TCC solenoid and 1 x EPC solenoid, replaced pan with new gasket, torqued everything to spec, refilled transmission fluid with Mercon V (4-quarts), idled for 10 minutes, checked fluid level, shifted all gears with foot on the brake, re-checked fluid level, tried for a test ride. no movement in drive, reverse or lower gears (i.e., 3, 2). No change in sounds or anything. Car does not stall.

Internal diagnosis and questions: When I changed the solenoids I did my best to keep trans fluid from dripping on the solenoid harness contacts that plug into the actual solenoid valve, but chances are a few drops may have touched the connectors. I made sure all rubber o-ring gaskets came out with old solenoids and new gaskets were on the replacement solenoids. Based on the truck not responding to any change in gear I want to believe this is an electrical issue. I checked a few fuses (i.e., 13 and 16) and they were fine. The truck never jerked when I changed gears or made any odd noises. Just completely unresponsive to changing gears.

Thanks for your help!
