302 EFI Belt change, anti-pollution?

Hi!

Summer is comming and I started to think about my van all the time again.

When I changed the engine last summer, we've put in a 302 without the head to head anti-pollution connecting hose. So I have a open ended ruber tube from wich I got some exhaust gas comming out of some times. The vacum valves on that part are all screwed up as well (rusted through). I also doubt that my EGR is still working. How can I get rid of all the anti-pollution system (or most of it) and how will this affect the computer and performance? Will I need to fixe useless vacum? Can I remove the EGR and shut the hole with a metal plate?

Other thing: My AC doesn't work as well and I don't want it anyway. I would like to remove the compressor and the air pump from the anti-pollution off the belt. Are there belts of any lenght that will precisely fit my need?

Thanks!
Etienne

efi belt change

once you remove the items you want to get rid of, run a thick string or cord or whatever around the pulleys still in use pull the tensioning pulley to max and then measure the amount of string used, go to auto parts store and buy lenght of belt needed, be prepared to try several belts, i used the same method and it took me several trys but i found the correct belt ok.

Thanks superhoperduty.

Anyone as ideas about removing the egr and the anti-pollution garnish?

just so i have it straight. are you doing this to a efi 302( looks like it from the efi in the title)? as far as i know i don't think that you can remove all the sensors, seeing as they give input to the puter, but if you're going to a carbed 02 setup then everything can come off, of course subject to pollution laws where you live, my 91 only has the tps on it as far as any sensors go, and that is only to give input for the e40d. good luck

Yes it's EFI. Emissions are not a problem, as long as it's not black smoke.

Do you know where I could find an image describing the anti-pollution system? I got the Haynes manual and it's no good for that. That would help me decide what I should remove/repair and if I should fill that hanging rubber hose that use to communicate with that head-to-head pipe.

Thanks for your help.

I will do a search in the forum (didn't think about that before...)...

you might find some pictures in a manual, i find most of the manuals are'nt really that hot but by looking in several different years of th same company( like haynes ) you usually can find one or two versions that contain what you're lookingfor. if you have a library card it might help, i know it helped me find a couple of good manuals. i guess i'd most likely plug the ports coming off the heads, if the crossover tube is gone anyway. good luck let me know what happens. if i can help any further i'll be glad too.

Thanks for your help, appreciated.

I will be back with that in a month or so. Got to wait till the nice weather comes back. My first goal is to get the van running properly. I had this problem that is described here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=315230

Now good weather is almost here. I seriously tought about putting a carb in there. My goal is to have the best mpg as possible. I'm doing highway driving 99.9% of the time. When I drive, it's for 6000 km straight. It's funny, in one day I had 2 people telling me about the advantage of carb over EFI. I think it would solve a lot of problems easily.

So I'll be back with that as soon as I start working on it.
