another 2.3 won't start...plz help!!

the truk ran fine in winter, then sat for about 1 1/2 mo in cold (chicago winter)
I now have it up for sale and now it won't start (go figure!) at first I would turn the key and it would crank, but not turn over. after failed jumping attempts, I thought the gas may have seperated or something, so I put a couple gallons of premium in there and still same thing...then I heard a tut. then nuthing at all when I turned the key.

I took out the starter and battery to auto parts store, both were good, the battery had a dead cell, but it should still start the truk, the guy recommended replacing an $8 part (like a connecting block or something...located near battery) now it cranks again like b4, but after more failed jumping attempts, still wont turn over.....

sorry so long-- any suggestions??

What year is the truck?
Have you checked for spark?
Is it fuel injected & can you hear the fuel pump running?
AL. :-wink

and no, I didn't check for spark, I dont know how (ok, ok you can stop laughing now) I am mechanically inclined, but with little experience working on vehicles.

I would check the fuel pump and also have you tried starter fluid just to see what happens.

this is just a suggestion

my buddy bought this 86 ford crown vic once and went through the same thing and after numerous failed attemts to everything we tried youll never guess what the problem was apparently in the winter months the motor had froze and blew out the freeze plugs on the engine and apparently if a freeze plug is out there will not be enough compression to start the engine again that is just something you could look into
