looking for coe blueprints
 

Hello I am looking for blueprints of cap over engine trucks. I find particular interest in the 1947 ford coe, but any others will do just fine.

Does anyone know of a good resource, or how one would go about getting rough/detailed plans?

Welcome aboard! FTE, and the 1948-1960 Truck Forum specifically, is one of the best, and friendliest group of folks you'll ever want to meet! 'course, some of us are crazy, but that just makes it more fun. :)

I'm not a COE expert, but detailed body plans for the COE might be around if you stick with the search. A place to start would be a web search if you haven't already done one. I found several thousand hits just searching with the words Ford COE 1947. You'll probably have to dig to find body dimensions if that is what you are after. I think the frame dimensions are available in the shop manual.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I am seaching for blueprints for an art piece. I want to convert a classic truck into 3D for a project. I found particular interest in the coe style of trucks. I have already scoured the web for 1947 ford coe and found plenty of reference material, but I like my work to be precise as possble, so blueprints would be ideal.

Another option would be to find a classic coe where I live, in Los Angeles. This would allow me to take plenty of source pictures and references. Unfortunatly there arent too many search engines or for sale sites for classic trucks in a specific area. Any links would be much appreaciated.

It sounds like you seek a "lines" drawing which provides the outline and contours in section as well as certain control lines. As this is for a 3-d piece, it seems that lines would be the most accurate type of drawing. Haven't a clue as to where they might be found. Early in the F-16 program we would often get requests from different places and we'd send out a "model builders" (simplified) set of lines derived directly from engineering. Perhaps Ford would be so accommodating. Perhaps not.

You may well have to go out and develop your own set of lines from measuring the real deal. This might be the best approach for the artist, giving you first hand contact with the subject and the depth of detail or accuracy that you require. In any event, best of luck to you. Ford can supply a build sheet and other information for your specific truck if you request it. They may even be able to supply the design information you are looking for. Unfortunately, Ford had a rather large fire in one of their storage areas where vehicle information was stored for older vehicles. I don't remember the exact year, but I think it was around 1960. Several folks have contacted Ford (including me) regarding vehicle information for fifties trucks, and Ford has responded that all those documents were lost in the fire. Whether the design information was lost, or just the specific vehicle information is a good question. Good luck with your hunt. :-X22

Ford of Canada still has all their information. I've gotten a build sheet for my truck. Although that will only work if you have a ford vin.
