Tranny/driveshaft squeal when driving.....
Hey there guys, question for ya...I have got a 96' 2wd F150 with a 4.9L and the AOD Tranny. The Problem is that when I am driving there is a squeal that sounds like it is coming from where the Driveshaft is slipped into the tranny. I checked the Ujoints and they are ok, but in the owners manual it says they are supposed to have pinhole type grease points, but they don't . They are sealed. But in the driveshaft, at where it is slipped into the tail end of the tranny there is hole, that looks like it could be a greas point. Is this a grease point or is it some kind of seepage hole, or vent hole. Any body have any experience with this...Thank you much... Trips7772(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

The hole you see on the end of the yoke between the ears (where the U-joint attaches is a vent hole so the yoke can "slip" fore & aft on the Transmission tailshaft.
You can have a dry joint and it will feel ok. Worst thing the manufacturers did was install "sealed" U-JOINTS..... Joints are relatively CHEAP compared to replacing a shaft with associated costs of balancing and installation. Go ahead and replace them and make sure they have grease fittings (zerk fittings).
