What kind of oil do you use in your Escape

I was wondering what kind of oil everyone uses in their Escape.

For the first 10,000 I went with the recommended Ford semi-synthetic oil and then I switched to Mobil 1 Super Synthetic 0-20. I haven't had any problems, but I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations.

My parents have a 2005 3.0l Escape. I maintain it with Mobil 1 5w-30 at 5,000 miles intervals.

I've heard both sides of the argument about the warranty and 5W-20 oils. I may do a used oil analysis and switch to 5w-20 contingent on the outcome of the anaylsis.

Mobil 1 has discontinued the 0/20. I have seen many Oil analysis of MC 5/20 versus Mobil 5/30 and they are about the same in 5500 miles. MC 5/20 semi is the better alternative even if you change more frequently because is less than half the cost.

I was disapointed when i noticed that mobil 1 had stopped selling the 0w-20...anyone know if they plan on releaseing a 5w-20??? I'd like to try the new 15,000 mile formula, but...i don't like using the 5w-30. I notice a significant diffrence in mpg and engine feel betweem the two in my car...

MC 5/20 semi though I'm not pleased with Ford no longer selling it to Walmart.

Fordtastic 03-18-2005 03:03 PM

Yeah i noticed that the local walmarts seemed to be out of stock very recently...how'd you find out they quit "selling" it to walmart? just asked an employee?

bananaboat 03-18-2005 05:07 PM

It's rumor though I logged a question with Ford on their website 6 weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Why have a question submission area on a website of you don't respond (their email said due to volume, it could take 3 or 4 days). Supposedly, the dealerships complained that nobody was using them for oil changes and blamed Walmart. So, MC stopped selling to Walmart. Regardless of the rumor, Walmart will no longer carry MC. There are plenty of other retailers and plenty of other oils that meet the Ford certification.

I just bought a used 2005 XLT from Hertz car sales (great deals!) and added a stainless steel Tru Filter and put in Mobil 1 5W-20 as specified. I'm curious about the new Mobil 1 oils rated for various mileages. In any case, my mechanic, whom I trust greatly, said that he gets A LOT of cars brought in with engine damage due to the wrong viscosity/weight oil used.

Yes Mobil 1 has 5w-20. If you have a qt of 0w-20 and a new quart of 5w-20 you will notice the stock # is the same. Same oil...new package.

Fordtastic 03-21-2005 01:08 AM

So they are selling the 5-20 in full synthetic formula or just dino/mix?

How would he be able to link wrong viscosity with engine failures??? he can't.

So this mechanic can tell the damage on an engine when using 5/30, 0/20 or 10/30 instead of 5/20??? Edited by Admin

there is absolutely nothing wrong with using 5/30, 10/30 or 0/20 or 0/30 in the 3.0 liter duratec engine for the Escape or any other car...

That's an old wives tale and simply not truthful. About as real as mechanics saying that you should only use the exact viscosity and the same oil manufacturer and stay with it for the life of the car. Too funny.

I usually use 5/20 MC because I can get it by the 5 quart jug now at the dealer and it's still cheap. I have used mobil 1 5/30 for half the 60,000 mile life of the car so far though.

Fordtastic 04-17-2005 11:48 PM

I notice a significant diffrence in mpg with 5w-20 versus 5w-30. That tells me enough.

Mobil 1 10W30

Switched to synthetic after 10,000 miles with standard 10W30. Engine should last forever now!!!

Motorcraft 5W-20 in our 05 Tribute V-6. Stocked up from Wal Mart when the rumors started about Wal Mart not carrying it anymore. Have 4 cases in the garage.

bananaboat 07-11-2005 04:48 PM

FYI - Wally Mart is carrying MotorCraft 5w20 semi once again. Picked some up today after hearing others say their local store was carrying once more.
