More power for 93 Lightning
I just got my 93 Lightning about a month ago and I'm looking to see what are good mods to give it more power. I want to stay with the 2003 Lightnings. What should I do to get it to run with them? Any suggestions on mod types and brands would be helpful.

That would be tricky, a stock 03 has 380hp /450tq whereas a 93 has 240hp and 340tq
even if you just added a supercharger, if you figure a 40% boost in hp you would still only be at 336hp. And thats just for a strait line. Here is the SVT site and the comparison between the 93 and 03 hope it helps. SVT Lightning |
even so, I would still like to know what could take me there, for instance what cams are good to add on, whether or not i should convert to mass air, what kind of heads are the best, what supercharger will give me the most hp, what fuel upgrades will give me the best control and what computer chips or electronic devices will add extra power

Thanks for your help jb1983. If there are any 1st gen owners reading this please give me some ideas on what you've done to bump up power. Thanks everybody!

A blower, headers, and traction bars and you're in GEN 2 territory.
My old blower setup (non-intercooled) netted me an 8.6 in the 1/8th, this was with Hooker headers, tranction bars, 30lb injecotors, and tuning software. On that run, I raced an 04 GEN 2 it it ran 9.0, it's best all day was an 8.98. |
what kind of blower did you use blurry? also what did you run in the 1/4 mile against the gen 2?

I'm running a Vortech SQ, and I haven't had my truck at a 1/4 mile track yet.
I added a intercooler from a Powerstroke Diesel (it was cheap too) and 42lb injectors since then. The very first tune I made for this combo get me 8.2 @ 88.6, which should be good for high 12's in the quater. I have pics in my gallery of both setups. |
hey blurry, i know im going to have to change to mass air to run more than 6 psi, whats the best kit to use and/or best way to do it?...thanks

The other thing I would recommend is getting a Tweecer and wideband O2 if you want to do your own tuning, unless you can find someone in your area that will dyno tune a speed density system and boost. With the added power, these trucks need some tractions bars to keep the rear from braking, and a valve body and better trans pan will help the E4OD live longer. |
y did you switch to mass air, blurry?
