Got a truck again!

Finally, after almost three years without a Ford truck in the drive I have one again. I bought a '74 F350 off of a friends dad. It's a standard cab with a 12' wood floor flatbed. Powered by a 360 mated to a fourspeed. It's two wheel drive and has dual wheels out back. It's not perfect, not yet anyway. But it won't take much to get it there. It starts and drives very well. My first sight of the vehicle about a year ago made me determine that it would one day be mine. As soon as I saw it parked next to the guys business with a for sale sign in it, I made the purchase. Now to get that '52 F3 that's all original! Does anybody have a VIN decoder that can help me decipher the numbers: F37YLU87496. Thank you all who emailed me about trucks for sale.

Congrats Ric on the purchase.

I checked my LMC book and it only lists 1/2-3/4 ton. The codes does not match up to anything you have listed.

I'll check around on my ATHS website and see if anyone has a book on it. Alot of big trucks guys there with alot of information.

Well, I found someone on the ATHS site that did some looking....seems that number does not show up in '51-up. Is there a chance someone got the numbers mixed up?
They seem to think it is NOT a '52. Not that it's in stone, but from what they found...it doesn't exist.

Sorry about the misinformation on the VIN Larry, the # I ran was on the '74 not the '52. What did you come up with on the VIN.

Ok, so that number was the '74 truck. Maybe that will make a bit of difference

Model Year: 74
Series: F350 - 4x2 Chassis & Cab
Engine: 8 Cyl, 360ci, 2bbl
Assembly Plant: Michigan Truck
Transmission: No code selected
Front Axle: No code selected
Rear Axle: No code selected

This is what I found. I did a query on "1974 ford truck vin" and found a site that has a VIN decoder.

That sounds correct so far Larry, I'm going to look into the rear axle ( which I think may be a Dana 70 as that's the only one listed for the F350 in '73-'75) and the tranny when I get it cleaned up.

As for the '52, I'm probably going to pick it up later this spring or summer for a couple hundred and start on it this winter. I'm hoping to have them both by May and take them to the show in Hebron if you guys are going to that again this year, any word on it yet? I'll drive the '74 and trailer the '52 unrestored with it.
