2005 F250 6.0 EGR valve disconnect

:)Did anyone with a 2005 F250/350 4x4- 6.0/tqshift diesel pull the plug on their EGR valve yet? If anyone has yet, please tell me if there is any improvement in performance/mpg increase since I am going to do it later this week sometime and wanted to get a heads up if someting goo d or bad does happen. thanks.

I got the courage to disconnect it a month ago and my truck had 2500 miles on it when I did it. I had heard that it will make the check engine soon light come on but it never did and the truck acts the same. I have still left it disconnected b/c we would of noticed a diff. if we unplugged it at 40,000 miles. It will get cloged overtime but as they are new then it will probably do nothing at all. I think it is a good decision to unplug it. They are no good and just read the thread on egr disconnection from earlier this year. It has alot of info....just make sure the truck is turned off and key is out of ignition...go under the hood and pull the plug then there ya go. When the key off the default position it closed for the valve so thus it will never open unplugged and never get the chance to get clogged up. I have left mine unplugged and it will stay that way for the rest of my ownership of it.....hope this helps!

Ok we have the Tech section at the top of forum.
check out the 6.0 Bible http://dan.prxy.org/Truck/6L_bible_html/html/TOC.html

Use the site search located here on FTE so we do not repeat.
Hope this helps.

I read the posts about disconnecting this, but a little confused about the '05's. do we just need to disconnect the plug or do we also need to remove the plate also?

Well you do not really have to do anything, but if the plug should just happen to fall off.......mine is still working with no problems plugged in.....user choice.

Keep in mind if you disconnect the EGR, it will throw some error codes. If you have a way of clearing the codes as with a tuner or disconnecting the battery, you should reconnect the EGR, clear the codes, go through the "relearning process" in the Tech Folder before taking it to the dealer for anything else.

Mine fell off over 10,000 miles ago. Surprisingly the throttle plate remained intact.

No Issues and I have not been re-introducing trash into my system for 'o these many miles.

did anyone have any power loss, more smoke from exhaust, difference in engine sound when they disconnected the egr valve?

I have disconected on both my 04 and 05, but reconected because I lost 3 to 5 lbs of boost. Being a VW parts manager, I am all to familiar with clogged EGR coolers and valves, but I sell Power Service here at my dealership, and have to say that it has eliminated the problem for us. I firmly believe if you use good fuel and the additive you should have no problems with the EGR system. I do agree that an EGR on a diesel matched with the poor quality of diesle fuel here in the US is a bad Idea. just my .02 and a little experiance :-wink
