71 F100 swaybars and front springs

I have found 1" front sway bars for this truck but really want a bigger one.
1 1/4" would be nice. I can't find front springs other than stock, I'm looking for stiffer performance springs. Does any one know sources for these? How about sway bars off other rigs that will fit here? How do the sway bars hook up to the front beams? I need sources. Thanks.

sway bars, springs

Hey 65 Comet, there was a bar years ago that went between the radius rods also look at the 1 ton trucks, the bar mounts on the frame like GM products and a strut mounts next to the lower shock mounts. Later Ford F250's had a higher top spring mounting bracket, 68-69 had the lower tower with a shorter spring. On my old 69, then 68 CS I installed springs that had a wire diameter of .712", empty driving the front end pushed. Check on different spring thickness as well as changing the top spring tower, tall or short to fit your needs.

try a spring from heavier package/engine.

the 73-79 sway bars attached to brackets wedged between the I-beam and spring/strut arm.

I'm not sure but I think I have the heaviest front springs. The truck is a 390 truck, ( now a 428 ) with a.c., p.s., p.b. The only downfall is the C-6, gimme the 4 spd.
What years 1 ton trucks would be donors?
I want to make the truck my daily driver work truck and am seriously considering swapping the 302, C-4 setup from my 65 comet in there. That comet needs that 428 hooked up to a 4 or 5 spd and a straight axle A/FX look. It's all on paper right now, but with one project about done, I'll be ready to start on that.
No one knows of performance springs made for these? You'd think somebody has to make them. Seams they make so much more stuff for the chebbies.

1 ton sway bar

Years ago I pulled a bar off a 73 1 ton truck. This had the bushings on the frame like GM's with struts that mounted on the I beam brackets.

65 comet have you tried the vendors on this site? if they dont list any springs i know LMC truck has a 2" drop spring and leaf spring to match. good luck on the A/FXer man that sounds sweet, im a big fan myself. :)

I'll try the LMC guys, a 2" drop would be perfect. If I understand Carl right, the 68-69 ( what about 67? ) springs are shorter than 70 - 72. By how much? That could be a nice solution. I don't have them all lined up here to measure. It's those damn little details that mess a guy up everytime. I need to go down to a boneyard and spend some time measuring stuff.
Carl, what makes the front end push that you mentioned, too stiff spring or not enough?

"Beemer Nut" 02-03-2005 11:32 AM

higher spring tower

On the later trucks the top spring tower is higher and the springs are longer like 2 1/2 to 3 inches. The springs will fit the low tower but you camber will be way off and the front will look like a 4 x 4. Front end push like I stated would be understeer, your going straight with the wheels turned. With a empty truck the outside front tire is loaded beyond the tires traction.
