rings and bearings

Td, I'll presume that your trying to do a rebuild on the cheap. I've been there. Come to think of it, I'm still there. Yeah you can reuse the old stuff. Is it going to be as nice the second time around ? No, it isn't. If I were going do a cheapo build and had to make the choice where to spend the few bucks available, it would be the rings. Bearings would have been 80$ for a set for my engine. I had 3 disassembled engines to choose parts from. I picked out the mains and rods from all 3 till I had a nice set. I measured them, and my loosest mains were .0035, my widest rods were .003. I had a used HV oilpump from one of the 3. I spent my 80$ on new moly faced rings from Hastings. I honed the bores with 480 grit stones and then a Kansas brush hone. Engine is still alive and well with little blowby, at least I can't detect any. Used the old pistons, and did a valve job. Get some good umbrella seals, so you don't have oil running down the stems and getting into the chambers. DF, @ his Dad's
