Well guys it looks like theblue oval crowd has has the upperhand this year as far as trucks go. With Fords new 150 on the maket now for 16 mos now and the revised SD on the road now for 4 mos the truck sales war has been dominated buy Ford. Ford outselling both GM brands by 45,000 trucks. Ouch. Fords been a thorn in GMs side this year. I cant remember Ford outselling them by that many units. So whats GM to counter with next. It will be iteresting to watch when there new truck models hit the market to see what they do. The new 150 and SD are definily class leaders. So can GM knock off Fords dominance here as well as gain sales with newly desighnrd trucks. Give me some thought as to what GM might do to counter act Ford. I didnt mention Dodge here because they redesigned there trucks three years a go. GM has the oldest design and will have the newest models when they come out.

All I know is I despise chevy designs, my F350 dually hands down looks much better than any other offering out there. I really have always hated chevys buttons in the interior, radio, temp, door locks and so forth. i will never own a chevy, I dont care if my Ford was to break down daily, I would walk. Chevy is gonna need something spectacular, I dont see it coming around the bend this time

I don't think Dodge even has the capacity to play with the big boys. What it will come down to this year I think is who has the best deal, be it cost, rebates or finiance deals.

That said I think the F-series will still out sell any one of the GM brands.

Wow. Newsflash. F-series trucks have been the best selling vehicles for like 100 years now...

According to an AP article I read GM sold 560174 more trucks than Ford.

I've owned both Ford And Chevys. They are both fine trucks, with Chevys you can figure on better gas mileage, and from my experience General Motors is easier to get warranty work done, to my satisfaction. I know others have had other experiences, I'm just sharing my experience. Ford is a tougher truck, it will take more punishment. Now to your question. Chevy released a Hybird truck in limted states, they have gotten side tracked trying to compete with the P/T Cruiser, coming out with an S/S Colbalt. so as it looks Chevy will do nothing in 05 with trucks, except the hybird version. I really don't think Chevy feels they need to do much, remember from 73-87 Chevy trucks stayed pretty much the same. Don't forget those truck where some of the most popular trucks ever built. So for me I'm going to stay tuned.

Mtomac, "truck" sales include pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles, so those numbers are a bit misleading. 150ford was talking specifically about pickups.

Those numbers are decieving. The truck numbers that you posted include all SUV sales as well. For GM that includes the Hummer, Cadillac, GMC, Chevy, and the Saturn SUV's. Fords are just fords truck and suv's only.

For trucks alone Ford F-series outsold GMC trucks and Chevy trucks combined.

When statistics are rolled together it can skew the view…much to the benefit of the company….in this case GM

I think we decided Ford outsold GM in pickups by either 23,000 or 45,000 units in a prior thread- depending on whether we count the Avalanche as a pickup or not. I'm doing this from memory, but I don't think I'm too far off of the mark. Keeping in mind that the combined volume was almost 2 million units, that's as close as a Washington State gubernatorial election. :-D

'05's going to be an interesting year, since there's really nothing going on but to play "shuffle the rebate." I expect GM to be aggressive on the incentive front, but that alone generally doesn't sway the fans to one brand or other. What will hurt GM, IMO, is the delay of the GMT900 (Silverado replacement), which will come after the new Tahoe/Silverado. There is a little method to this madness (or at least so I'm told). The big SUV segment is one of GM's strongest markets, so they want to press on their strengths...and get GM buyers used to the new look, since the pickups are still the volume leader.

You know its been a great rivalry between two great companies. Ford and GM. Dodge has to be entered in the mix since about 1994 with the advent off there new bodystyle but before this you could have called it the Big two as far as trucks are concerned. The Chevrolet brand outsold Ford through the 1950s Ford trucks were gaining ground. Buy 1967 Ford finally outsold Chevy and have done that every year except for one 1977. The main reason at that time was Ford still had there highboy F-250 4x4. This was an era where 4 wheel drives were gettng to be big sellers every year. GM had a lower profile HD 4x4 truck then Ford. Ford countered with a lowered 250 and outsold them once again. Ford has outsold both GM brands severaltimes through the years 2004 being one off them. It all started back in Henry Fords day when he said you can have it in any color as long as its black. GM countered with a staggering variety of colors for there vehicles. Henry had to change his ways and he did. Look at the great trucks we have today. Compeition breeds quality and we have it today because of this great american rivalry.
