headlights not working properly

I was wondering if any one could help me I have an 85 Ford pickup and sometimes when I have my headlights on they sometimes just start blinking on and off. My dad also has a 68 mustang and his headlights also blink on and off sometimes. I don't know what it is, some people say it might be the high beam switch but I not sure. If you could help that would be great thank you.

The headlamps are not fused. They have a circuit breaker built into the headlamp switch. Several things can cause this:

1st obvious reason is a bare headlamp wire touching metal(check around the dimmer switch on the floor if your model has it there)

The headlamp switch breaker is getting weak or plug is loose at the switch.

Someone has installed high output lamps or aux lamps that are putting too much load on the breaker in the switch.
