K&N Filters
 

I have noticed that when some people add a K&N filter they remove the factory intake and bolt it directly to the Mass Air Flow sensor. With the rest of the Factory intake in place. This should resut in increased power, but would you get more with cold air since the filter is exposed to the engine heat.

Anoter question about intakes is that if i buy a factory replacement from K&N could i just buy the Cold air Kit and save a few bucks. If that is possible.

Reducing restrictions in the intake increases performance potential. This would include higher flow filters, larger surface area on filter, and changes to the ductwork.

Cooler air is better for performance.

So yes, the K&N FIPK helps with air flow and hurts with air temp.
Is it worth a performance gain? I don't know.

I do, however, understand "save a few bucks".
People have fabricated FIPK's.
The stumbling block involves attaching the filter to the MAF.
It can be done, but I don't know how. My truck doesn't have a MAF, so I don't even understand why attaching a filter to it would be difficult.


Something else worth considering involves the "cold air" angle. Some people apply insulating tape to their intake ductwork and air-box. The idea being to reduce the air inlet temps. The insulating tape can be purchased from hardware stores in the "heating/AC" areas. It's not too expensive, might actually help, and can't possibly hurt.

Sry about that i tend to ramble and not make sense some times.

A friend of mine bought an '02 with a K&N filter, with the factory air box removed, all it is to attactch to it is to take 4 sheet metal screws and run them through the sensor. and then some other jibberish.
