reverse eye springs on 53 F100
 

I am looking to lower my 53 F100. It will have 5.0L with AOD, stock rear end, stock front axel.
One vendor suggest reversing the front Rear bracket to prevent binding. Is this needed? has anyone done this? How was the bracket re-attached?

I'm not clear about your question. Are you talking about front springs, rear springs, or both? Your title says "reverse eye springs". Is that what you want to know?
I understand that reverse eye springs usually yield between 2-3 inches of drop. Dropping every other leaf out drops evrything another 2-4 inches. If you use monoleaf springs, instead of factory leafs, that is usually worth even more drop, but some folks don't like that option for ride quality.

The vender suggest flipping the bracket closest to the cab on the rear springs when using reverse eyes. It is supposed to prevent them from binding in the bracket. Is this really needed?
No suggestion is made for the front springs.

This bracket is riveted to the frame. If it is flipped, what is the best metod for reattaching it to the frame.

I am not sure if you are trying to achieve everything useing a bolt on option or not. You could move the axle to the top of the leaf springs and gain a 4" of drop easily.

Yes you need to flip the bracket. Just grind the rivet heads off then drill them out or use a punch and good sized hammer. Next switch them from one side of the frame to the other, just use grade eight bolts and nuts and the job is done.

I've done this before. Just grind the heads off of the front rear spring hangers. Then use a punch and hammer out the rivets. Then take the hanger from the passenger side and flip it upside down and bolt to the drivers side. Repeat process to other side.


I've also drilled new holes for the hangers but just moved them up on the frame rails as high as you can and still get a nut on the back of the bolt you use to reinstall hanger with.


Someone I'm sure has a post about this our a tech article about it. These are old tricks.
