302 Motor Mounts

I stripped the '90 Crown Vic donor; will mount 302 and AOD in my 1950 F47 half ton.

Could use advise on best mounts to purchase and where (LMC, CPP, etc ?)
Will go with rubber or poly urethane pads.

I have an after market IFS, and have boxed plates from front of old axle to original tranny cross member, I figure I will need weld in brackets. I have picture of IFS posted in my gallery.

I did "rough" mock up with 302 and AOD on frame; looks like I will have issues with fan clearance on original front rad support. It also appears 302 engine mounts will be 2-3" rear of IFS centre on centre.

Any input welcome

Tom

Tom,

Our projects are very similar. I am doing a '50 F-1 with a 351W and C4. I have installed a TCI Mustang II IFS. I used their weld-in ford motor mounts and original steel and rubber Ford mounts on the engine. I tried a Chassis Engineering transmission crossmember but changed to a TCI unit so I could fit in the TCI power booster and brake/MC combination. The main problem I had was the clearing the IFS crossmember with the oil pan. Had to change over to a rear sump with an dipstick fitting in the pan. Came out okay. It is a fun project but you can count on challenges all along the way. Make sure you measure the weld-in mounts carefully before you cut them.

Tom,
I can't speak to your application since I have a '53 but I can give some advice on the motor mounts. I used the same TCI weld in mounts as Kent but ran into a problem when I went to put them in. I learned from TCI that their weld in mounts are designed for late 60's Mustang motor mounts that bolt to the engine. I'm assuming that your 90 Vic 302 and my 92 LSC 302 both use the same factory mount that won't work with the TCI weld in frame mounts. I just ran to the autoparts store and picked up the Mustang one's but did a fair amount of head scratching in the mean time.

Good luck - Brad

Thanks Brad;

I did some looking around at local performance shops today, their TCI catalogue does not list motor mounts. The ones they showed me, were basically stock mounts for Crown Vic 302, with hole to attach to bracket and would require fair amount of fabrication to mount to boxed frame. I will keep looking. Thanks for the input, I appreciate the help.

Tom,

Try TCI or Chassis Engineering online. They both carry weld-in units.
