Whats the problem, it wont start, a click thats it!
 

One day I had to jump my buddys car. Everything went fine I turned my truck off and came back out the next day and all it did was 'click'...lights and radio were on and everything, battery seemed fine the night before. Changed the stater solenoid and that didn't fix anything. I just ordered a new starter and plan on tering things down tomorrow night to get it on. How hard is the starter to change?...I hope this is it...if not the games will begin, what you guys think?

How about your battery cables are they corroded at all. Thatcould cause your problems. Might have to clean them up with some baking soda to get rid off the corrosion. How are your lights when you turn them on are they dim or bright,

I'd start with the battery posts, tap them and see if it works, then chack the battery to see if you're getting 12 volts, heck throw a charger on it and see if it'll turn over then. Then check the cables, especially the ground. Then get your volt meter out and see if 12 volts make it the starter. If not, and all the cables are good, I'd look at the starter relay to see 12 volts leave it. If niether -- check starter/ignition swithc on your steering column.

After, that, I'd buy a new starter. Not a bad job, 3 bolts or something like that hold it on?

Maybe jumping your buddies truck drained your battery. Check that first. Clean the posts and all the cable connections. The starter is a cinch to change. Take the starter to NAPA or something and have them bench test it. My 92 Ranger gave me intermitent starting problems and I had to change the positive batery cable. It looked fine but was corroded its entire length. That solved my starting problems.

Don't know what year U have but I had the same prob, Just click. I took the starter out and tested it with jumper cables from the battery. Worked perfect! Reinstalled it, Just click. Ended up being a ground wire from the neg. battery terminal down at the framerail. Just thought I'd share!

Check starter and connections first. BTY mines a 95 Ranger XLT w/2.3.
