Speedometer Recalibration around Atlanta?
Just added 285 R75 16 BFG T/A's and new wheels on 01 4x4 Supercrew. I want to have the speedometer recalibrated and have been unable to find a dealer that will do it, or know of anyone that can. Anyone know of a dealer around or close to Atlanta that can do this? Or any other trustworthy shop?

You can take it to the dealer and have them do it if they're willing too. Otherwise the only aftermarket way/cheapest to do it that I know of is through a hypertech programer

It must be getting pretty bad when a dealer can't be persuaded to take five minutes and recalibrate a speedometer. My son had his done, (not a Ford) for the same reason the other day and wasn't even charged and I'm not positive but fairly certain the process is the same.

The bad thing about it is I have friends in the service dept. at two different dealerships and they will not do it. None of them can find out why either. I'm going to try Allen Vigil Ford and see if they can do it. They advertise they can do all kinds of up grades to 4x4's including lift kits. I'm crossing my fingers.....If not, then I'm going to get the programer and do it myself.
Just got an e-mail from a place in Roswell that wants 285.15 and two hours to do it. You might consider that legal robbery...... I can add 5 MPH to the speedometer in my head for a a long time for 285.15! But I really need it done for the shift points to be correct again. Programer still looks cheaper Thanks for the responses, I'll keep the board updated on my progress and IF I find a dealer in the whole state that will do it. |
Update! Allan Vigil Ford Morrow location Only!
Allan Vigil Ford responded today that they will reprogram the computer for the larger tires and change shift points for 1 hour service fee ($79.95) with a appointment. I purchased the Hypertech programer today so I can change the shift points to my satisfaction. If your not happy with the shift points after they program it, might cost you again as they said they will try to get as close as they could.

I guess having an older truck has it's good points, to recal on the '95 there's a wire under the glove box that you short to ground and then using the select and reset buttons on the dash you set the speedo for the size tire. Only problems is you can only do it 5 times so you'd better be right.
Supercrewz was it Allan Vigil in Fayetteville or McDonough? John |
McDonough, Fayetteville not able to do it. They installed my wheels and tires, but couldn't recalibrate computer. Not sure why....

Might be too late, but contact Speedometer Service. Their website is Spedometer Service.
They can do it. They do all the OEM warranty work for Ford for their instrument clusters and radios. I have dealt with them for over 10 years. I'm actually about to send an instrument cluster to them to have the mileage updated to match the cluster I am taking out of my Ranger... :-tap |
I have already purchased the Hypertech Programer. Had the speedometer fixed in about 30 min along with a few extra changes to the programing. Thanks for the info though. I'm sure it will help someone in the area at a later date.
