I haven't hunted much in the past few years. I used to hunt almost every weekend. I was spoiled back in the mid 80's - early 90's. Got to hunt on private land (1100 acres) with only a few others hunting it. Mostly my dad and I along with one of the best friend I ever had. Things changed, lost the rights to hunt on the land. It's just not the same anymore.
We were a few miles from the nearest road, no electricity, no bathroom, a cinder block building about 20X24 with a propane heater and a propane stove. No radio, no TV.
It was some of the best times I have ever had in my life.
Now it's real expensive to get in a good hunting club, too much hassle with work days, and all this-and-that.
I enjoyed hunting where it was all just woods and creek bottoms. No food plots, no shooting house, no hassles. Just me and my tree stand and my gun and my friend.
I haven't been able to find that again. Not likely I ever will again.
Even though I have killed a few nice bucks, I have probably watched 50+ racked bucks over all the years I have hunted and not shot them. I realzied I enjoyed huting - and what all went with it - as much or more than I enjoyed killing a deer.
I miss hunting - but I don't think I could ever have it that way again.....

Brian, if you enjoy hunting without seeing people in the woods (mountains), try heading out
west, lots of room to move around. The key is getting a tag, not like back east and MW where you just buy one over the counter. My state is 89% federal land, so there are a lot of places to go.

I agree Brian hunting to me is just as much about spending time in the outdoors as it is the kill.

I was out there, and I'm going back tonight. So far I've got an 8 piont and a doe. Hope to get a couple more.

Jim

BTW: I love the quietness of the woods too.

Jim
