Symptoms of a bad ECM computer
What are the symptoms of a bad ecm computer? Could a symptom be a hot restart that the motor just cranks over and over but doesn't restart right away after the first start up of the day?
|
The first computer I used for my MAF swap did this. It would start ok cold, but if I drove it any and shut it off, it would not restart for a while afterwards. I checked and tested everything that I could though, I didn't just go buy a computer because I thought it was bad. I also couldn't get any diagnostic codes out of it. It could possibly be a bad TFI module as well, but unless it cuts off while running, I would doubt that it is the TFI..

The tfi module has been replaced, but I figured it wouldn't solve my problem at all....

Can you get any codes out of it?
|
sure can't, have replaced alot of components too, it's a glitchy problem

I would start to suspect the ECM if you can't get any codes. There are a couple of places that will test it, and if it's bad will rebuild it. I don't have the links on my computer at school, but I think I still have them at home. I'll check this weekend.

could be the guts inside the distributor - but if your ecm wont throw codes even if you disconnect something to force it to then it's probably on the fritz.

96 .50 F150 ignition rabbit hole
I'm new and admitt I have very limited knowledge of ignitions, but because I own a 96 Ford f150 I admitt I have gotten grease over my wife's kitchen these last months.
I've spent way too much money and labor to throw in the towel now. So some one please help me I need some school on what the heck to do. Started with a trans problem not slipping but shifting late or early or not shifting at all to staling and hard starting to a no spark no start I replaced the coil, plugs wires ,plugs, cap, distributor itself, and last week the speed sencer on the trans. Ran great for one day, then while it had a little more power ,went right back to bad shifting , ruff idle, nowere near the power it should, and just started to hard start again. Check engine light has stayed on after being cleared every time something was replaced. So any ideas I wonder if the damn computer is shot any advice would help this is my only vehicle I need it to feed the famley. Bikerdan |
You should have started your own thread instead of digging up one from 2004.
Include as much information as you can including what codes you got from the KOEO test and weather they are active or stored ( continuous memory) codes. You need to repair any KOEO codes before moving on to the KOER test. |
