OIL Dipstick?

Anyone know of a good aftermarket dipstick for the 6.0L? Or a mod that would make that engineering masterpiece easier to read? I swear I have to check the oil a dozen times to get a good reading... Thanks in advance!!

Some guys did talk about painting it with a white epoxy paint and that helped them a lot. One of these days when I remember I'll pick some up when I'm at the hardware store.

I used "white out" worked great....

just drive up to the dealer and tell them the dip stick broke from the T. they should give you a new one with a white tip from the 04 model.

Hmm...I have an 04 and the tip is grey. I don't know if I would mess with painting something and then sticking it back in my engine.

Get the Gray one it is great....had to change mine form the black one...lets see black oil black dipstick....someone is still laughing about that one.

Mine is the gray one on my 04. I still painted the back side of it white with white out after roughing up the plastic...Ever tried to get that stuff off anything? Works great.

Will give the white out a try thanks for the tip!!

I wouldn't use white out. I would go buy a can of high temp engine or exhaust paint.

Daryl Hunter 11-13-2004 09:56 PM

I'm going to give it a shot too. I figure that even if it does come off, the minute amount of it on there won't cause any grief.

I would think that the paint would be better to use, but since I have some whiteout handy right now . . . :)

The Gray one is cheap......

Bear Hunter 11-14-2004 08:42 AM

I still wouldn't paint it

I pick up my new 2005 F350 SC LB 4x4 DRW 6.0L 4.10 two weeks ago and the oil was always over the max on the stick. After 4 days of trying to find the the oil mark I couldn't take it any more. So I went out and picked up 16Qts of Rotella 15-40 and a new filter. I but the truck on level ground removed the dip stick and drained the oil. When the pan was done draining I drained the filter housing and replaced the filter. When the pan stopped draining I put the plug back in. I then put in 12Qts of oil and ran the truck for 3mins.and then truned the engine off. I than went in the house and made a cup of coffee and after 15mins went back out and picked up the dip stick off of my work bench and check the oil. It was at the min line. I now put in 1 and a 1/3 Qts. Let it set for 5mins and rechecked the oil and it was at 1/2 way between min and max. I did not add any more oil. I've checked it every day for the last 5 days and it's easy to see and always 1/2 way between min and max.

Another testimony to hazards of overfilling and only refilling with 13.5 quarts of oil.

Yeah Tim, someone is definitely chuckling about that one.
