1960 4x4 f-250 steering box help
Need help. I am looking at putting in a stock steering box in my 60 ford 4x4 f-250. I don't have the original box.
Is there a difference between the 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive steering boxes? According to my 57-63 parts and accessories catalog: 4 wheel dirve Steering gear assy: B9TT- 3504-A Shaft and worm: B7Y 3524- A Housing assy: B9TT-3548-A Sector Shaft: B7T -3575-C To make it more confusing I cross referenced and found that some parts on the 59/60 f350, f500,f600 have some of the same part numbers for the 4x4: Shaft and worm upper and lower bearing cups bearing worm roller type Sector shaft was different Could I modify a 2 wheel drive box to accomodate the 4x4 components or should I just put in a 2 wheel drive box and not worry? Appreciate any help. |
they are very different. What problems are you having with the box.? If it has a lot of play and has been adjusted up, you may just need to install new bearings and new sector shaft bushing. Boxes are tough on these trucks.,. I have one like yours myself.

The prior owner "modified" it with a poor fitting power steering assembly so I don't have the original box. I have some used 2 wheel drive steering boxes and wondered if it would work. Did you rebuild your steering box? Is the sector shaft roller the same as a 2 wheel drive so if I find a used one I can rebuild it? Thank you for your reply.
