1998 ranger gas tank size

i'm wondering if anyone can tell me what size fuel tank i have in my 1998 ranger. 3.0L v-6 regular cab. 4x4. the owners manual that came my truck is a 1997, and i think it's the wrong info. also, does anyone know where i might be able to find a correct manual to purchase? maybe someone has a hook up at a dealership or something. thanks for any help.

The 98 standard cabs have a 17 gallon tank... at least mine does.

I was thinking mine was 15, but it may be 17. I dunno, but when my truck is below empty, and the "check gauge" light comes on warning of low fuel, I fill it up, and only can get like 12 gallons in, maybe 13 once or twice when i really pushed it. I know its at least 15, but dang, that fuel gauge is way, way jumping the gun, especially if its a 17 gallon tank. My g/f always thinks we are gonna run out of gas, but i always keep track of the miles, just in case the gauge decides to let me down. lol

Here is a link to Ford's Service web site where you will find PDF files of the Service and Owner's Manuals.

Fuel Capacities are on page 149 of the owners manual.

Fuel tank N/A Regular cab
(Short wheel
base)
62.8L (16.6 gallons)

Regular cab
(Long wheel
base)
75.7L (20.0 gallons)

SuperCab 74.2L (19.6 gallons)

Hope this helps....

same thing happens to me. is this a ford error? can the gauge be corrected? it's weird and kind of unnerving to be driving with the low fuel light on. i guess i can learn to live with it.
DDRanger, thanks for the link to the owners manual.

I've been a ranger owner for a week as of today, and I'm loving it thus far.

The light comes on for me at about 220 miles. And then i usually drive it till about 240 till i fill it up.....getting in about 12 gallons. 20 mpg....so theoretically, it should be able to go like 332 miles before a fill up. And the light comes on at 220. WOW. Thats like 1/3 tank. Thats crazy. Man, on my old cavalier, if it even looked like it was going to get close to the E anytime soon, you were already out of gas. LOL

I'd think it'd come on with like 2 gallons left maybe....not 4.5

My granddaddy told me this years ago, about 47 years ago. Fill up your truck and when it gets to 1/4 tank fill it up again. Once it's filled up it dosen't cost anymore to keep a 1/4 tank in the truck all the time....
