My ranger sits a little lower on the driver's side and I can't figure out why. The air pressure in both tires is the spec 30psi. The truck has about 13,000 miles, regularly serviced, maybe 200 miles driven off pavement. It is a 2002 XLT 2.3L with p225/70R15 tires. Is there any way for the dealer or me to check level. I have looked and it seems a little low but I am nor sure what is true and what do I imagine. Any ideas would be most appreciated and if anyone needs more info please ask.

Make sure all 4 tires are aired up. Park the truck on level pavement. Jounce all 4 corners a bit to let them settle. Measure with a tape measure from the ground up to the same point on the frame on both sides both front and back. There is always some normal variation from manufacturing tolerances but it should be less than 1/4" side-side.

Once you determine there is an inappropriate "list" start measuring springs etc until you find the problem.

My Ranger (2002 XL) is the same. Approx. 1.5" lower on the drivers side than the passenger. I just figured that I needed a diet. Is this something that might be covered under the warranty ??

Almost every ranger has this problem. Since your truck is under warranty I would take it to the dealer and complain about. There have been TSB's written up on the problem and I think the fix is to swap leaf springs or add shims

I have a 97 Ranger that does the same thing. I have noticed that with almost an empty tank of gas the lean is not so severe. My theory is the weight of a full tank of gas and driven mostly without a passenger will attribute to a lean after time. Does this sound far fetched to you?

I have noticed when I fill up it leans to the drivers side also. Guess I need a bigger girlfriend!!:-hair

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Dec-02 AT 11:16 PM (EST)]Mine's a "left-leaner" (`99 SuperCab 4x4) and I'm NEUROTIC about air (tire) pressure, I check `em AT LEAST 3 times a week (sometimes 3-4 times A DAY - no, just kidding - I think? - well, there have been a few days like that - do I need to get a life or what?).

Never thought about the full fuel-tank though, I'd a thought FoMoCo would have taken this into consideration - I believe a gallon weighs like 5 or 6 lbs. - so that would add like what, 100, 120 lbs?

Never measured, but it's obvious - always getting extra accumulation of water (worse - ICE!) in the Left-front of the bed (cab-side of the bed).

I'm mad if it's anything to do with there just being a driver most of the time in the vehicle, I did weigh about 240-245 at one point, but am down to about 195-200 now, this should NOT affect the self-leveling characteristics of a vehicle, especially a "truck" at 65,000 miles! At this rate, my a$$ will be draggin' the ground by 100K. :-huh :-X25

If it does drag it will rub a little meat off and lighten the load! -hehe

WOW! Do you suppose we have discovered the self leveling mechanism Ford designed!!!
