Were there any symptoms? :-tap

In my Ford workshop manual Volume II page 307-01-30 is states:
"Shift solenoids A and B provide gear selection of first through fourth gears by controlling the pressure to the three shift valves."
I don't know where they are yet.

They are inside the tranny.

there has not been any noticable problems as far as i can tell, just the check engen light came on, if its inside the trany any idea on how hard it might be to get repaired?

not very you just have to drop the pan ,and valvebody to get to them. chances are though that the only thing that needs to have done is have the transmission case grounded with a heavy wire to the frame. this will take care of alot of these crazy tranny codes, with no noticeable symptoms.

rscritch 10-15-2004 03:53 PM

so a faulty ground might be causeing the codes to trip my light, where is the factory ground located for the trans, that way i can inspect it and see if there is any thing wrong with it, even if theres a problem it dosen't soudns all that hard to fix

1ruralmailman 10-17-2004 11:12 AM

there is not one thats the problem, they count on the tranny being bolted to the block to do it.works good for a while, but over time with a aluminum tranny case ,and a cast iron block ,held together with steel bolts electrolosis sets in just enough to lose the ground. this makes the processor go into a "limp home" mode, and it will eventually will not shift right.

so i should run a ground to the tranny and see if that will fix the problem? any recomended spots to ground it at?

Mine failed (shift solenoid) right after the tranny was rebuilt and Ford had to open it up again to replace it.

clean metal on the case, pull a bolt on the pan shine up the pan and yhe bolt. find a empty hole in the frame ,polish it up bolt it together, and youre done.

So did cleaning up the ground and/or adding a ground strap to the tranny work? I'm very curious as I just replaced my solenoid valve body (p0755 Shift Solenoid B malfunction) and now I'm getting 3 error codes (p0755, p0750, P0743) and unfortunately some new shifting problems. My battery is pretty corroded which I'm sure isn't helping matters.

yes it did i mine.

Holy smokes. The ground trick seemed to work. Of course it took A few days for the computer to reset but an hour after ordering the solenoid pack the of light stops flashing and it shifts fine. Cleared the codes and nothing else coded. I thought for sure that this wouldn't work for me because it was shifting so badly and I just installed the engine 3 months ago no way this was a problem. But it is hot here. (AZ 100 degrees). And the P0755 code was only when it was hot out? Well see how it runs over the next few days. Solenoid pack gets here Tuesday as the backup plan now.
