Are there any updates or flashes for '05s yet?
 

I have 1700 miles on my '05 6.0 CC Lariat FX4 and everything has been awesome. My only complaint is the turbo lag from a dead stop. As we all know it is pretty bad. Has anyone heard if Ford has released any flashes to help fix this problem? I realize all turbo vehicles have some lag, but this doesnt seem acceptable.

I have an 05 also and I have the same problem with the turbo lag. From what I've read around here, all diesels will have turbo lag. The predator has fixed it a little but from a dead stop it is still pretty bad.

The one I test drove had the lag, and I found that out in front of a wall of oncoming traffic while taking a left at an intersection. First no power for what seemed like forever, then it took off like a rocket, a little scary at both extremes, especially when you consider that I'm used to driving a single cab Nissan 4x4 w/ a 4 banger in it.

Thankfully, the one in my garage doesn't seem to have any lag, but I have not yet punched it from a dead stop.

I agree with you, that is not an acceptable problem; I was agonizing over it from order date to delivery date.

Others have disconnected their EGR and/or reprogrammed other model years, but I don't know if it works for the '05.

Try a search for EGR. There are excellent step-by-step instructions for disconecting it somewhere on this site. Since I know little of what I say, however, you might first want to look a bit further into potential cons of doing that, especially as they relate to the '05.

picked up my 05 F350 KR SRW, 6.0 yesterday,,

I have yet to romp it to the floor with only 150 miles on it but have not experienced any lag when punching it lightly,, comparing it to my 03 F250 7.3 I would say they are about the same when taking off,, minimal lag on the response,,

6.0 is certainly quicker and the 7.3 was tuned up a tad,,

Trubo Lag?
 

Have about 1,300 on my 05 KR. There is a lag, but not sure if is turbo caused. When doing around 1,700 RPM and I floor it, there is still the "performance pause". When spun up like that, there should not be such a delay in power due to turbo lag. But there definately is something. Have found that just moderate throttle works best, but this is somethimes hard to do when something bigger than you is headed your way.

Buy a tuner from MotorHaven....all fixed :-X22

There is a different EGR on the 05. I don't know if it helps the performance. I have an 03. The EGR is the same on the 03/04. When the lead connector falls out of the EGR, it does seem to minimize the lag. I am not convinced that the PCM programming from Ford doesn't have the delay built in to prevent damage to the drive train. If you ease into it, the acceleration is better than if you just floor it.

Agreed, but I don't feel like taking my chances on voiding the warranty on a $20,000 motor. Maybe after I get quite a few miles on it...:)

as soon as ford comes out with the flash that changes the suspension from coils back to leafs, i will own a new one:)

The EVRT (electronic variable response turbo) does have quite a bit of lag. it starts pulling good a 2000 RPM. You could always powerbrake it up to 2000 RPM but then you better have it in 4wd and hold on. This turbo is good for engine braking. I suspect an after market turbo like a BB turbo would make these trucks instantaneously responsive.

Do we know anyone who has done this with a 6.0

Turbo Lag
 

Turbos will always lag until the engine speed comes up above the idle. You are dealing with the law of physics. You cannot get more energy (boost) out of the turbo until you put more energy into it (higher exhaust gas volume and pressure)

Maybe someone should invent an electric motor assist to spin up the turbo quickly until the exhasut gas volume builds up to where it can take over.

Well let's see. I 'accidentally' left my left foot on the brake and wound it up to 1800 rpm and let off the brake. Whiplash!

I accidentally left my foot on the brake and wound it up to 2000 rpm and smoked both rear tires such that a guy who drives a F150 Harley opened his eyes real wide.

One thing that is interesting is that some folks have reported more lag when they punch the pedel down to the floor than when more gradually easing it on.

Perhaps this is more perception than reality, but I wonder if the ECM responds differently when you go from zero pedel to 100% in one quick mash versus rolling on the throttle more slowly.

Or maybe I just need an excuse to try a handfull of 60 ft acceleration tests this weekend :)

tuned, you want ford to flash a new truck, my 03 ran great before the two flashes put on my truck(that had a rear main leak,) ive lost low rpm power,milage. be happy and hope it never sees dealer again.
