5.4 triton performance and gas mileage?

how does the new triton moter perform in the super duty trucks? is it powerful enough to power the truck and tow a bass boat? also what kind of fuel mileage have you noticed out of your 5.4 super duty?

I have a 5.4 Regular cab and the power is ok. If you dont mind a couple of miles worse mpg go for the v10. I just put slightly larger rims and tires on it and I notice the truck is working a little harder. If this is a 2005 you are talking about the v8 should be fine because of the 40 more horses and the variable valve timing.

I also get about 14 to 15 mpg but I do all Highway driving though I have the 3.73 gears.

JJoel,
Took delivery in August of '05 SD SuperCab 2WD 5.4 w/TorqueShift Tow Commander 3.73 LS gears. I bought this truck for general hauling of goods around town and TT towing about 5-6 times a year.
As of this morning I have just under 3K on the odometer and she is one sweet ride. Very solid and smooth on good pavement but she shows her heritage over bumps, a real truck!
Driving around town I average about 11-13, freeway driving (70 w/cruise) 16-17, towing my trailer (6,500-7,000 pounds) 9 mpg. Just about what I figured I'd get. As the miles go up and she gets broken in, any increase will be a blessing.
The 5 speed trans works faultlessly so far and the Tow Commander is about as good as advertised, if not better. The trailer tows well, but a little more power would be required if you really want to tow without effort or tow more often. Remember this truck weighs 6,000 pounds empty. I'm glad I went with the 250 vs 150, this truck just feels more solid.
Overall I'm quite happy with my purchase, now only if oil would go down below $50 bbl !!!!!

so i'm guessing i won't see the likes of 17 or 18mpg on a nice interstate cruise. i just like the idea of the triton in the 3/4 ton. simply because you get a bigger cab more room and i like the body style better. anyways thanks for ya'lls inputs it gave me a good idea about what im looking at as far as economy.

Does the 5spd auto with the torque shift hunt for gears on the highway? Mine constantly has to downshift on the highway goin up a slight incline. The last gear seems to be very tall and while good on level pavement, it drives me nuts on inclines. I was thinking about getting the banks power commander for the transmission. anybody had any experince with the banks. i have a f350 5.4 reg cab I sometimes hate auto trans because the computer seems dumb.

I have a 2004 F250 CC 4x4 Auto with 4:10's. I towed 6K this summer with down shifting on hills, It will hold speed in 3rd gear, never slowed down. I get 12 city, 15 highway, 8-9 towing. I have been pleased with engine performance for what I need the truck to do. I agree with oxford, the computer downshifts the transmission to early. I would like to find a way to program the shift points myself. Philip.
