Dodge stepping up with the new Power Wagon

It looks like Dodge is bringing back the Power Wagon and bringing it back with force! It is set up to be a serious off road truck. It comes standard with a 12,000 lb integrated Warn winch designed for that truck. Electronically controlled sway bar that can disconnected from inside when you need to articulate. Electronic lockers for front and rear axles. Check out the undercarriage pics!! Here is a link to the Four Wheeler artical.

They are definitely going a after a target market ...

77fordguy 10-06-2004 02:11 PM

I's a shame it's a Dodge, otherwise that thing would be pretty cool. :D

FordInProgress 10-06-2004 03:02 PM

They are using the same tranny. Good luck.

From the article:

"Buyers can choose from either a five-speed automatic or, shortly after the vehicle's launch, a six-speed manual transmission. The transfer case is the NVG271 unit that boasts a 2.73:1 low-range ratio."

Cool! :-X22

i guess that shoots down the bad transmission argument. Besides, the trannies that had the "suposed" problems were the 4 speed autos.

AT least is a real offroad package and not just some skidplates and stickers like some other companies sell.

They are grasping at straws. Kinda like the "hemi" gimmick. It won't be long and Daimler will be getting rid of dodge.

150ford 10-06-2004 05:33 PM

It seems like Dodge is coming up with something all the time to keep peole interested trying to cover up there poor quality vehicles. I feel sorry for people driving Dodges. They usually arnt driving nother one after a bad experience.

bassdude 10-06-2004 06:51 PM

so they ard dredging up another well known brand name from the past. like the hemi, GTX, Rumble bee. 300. at least when ford does it ,they back it up with some substance.

biggieou 10-06-2004 07:05 PM

Yawwwwwwnnnnn. Now if Ford would do something like this, then we would be talking. I once heard someone say they would like to see Ford come out w/a big 4x4 that was bad ASphault. And name it Thunder, so we could have Thunder and Lightning.

I do have to give Dudge some credit, at least they are going to offer a manual transmission in it, I respect that.

Substance, have you forgotten the t-bird?
I know Ford would hope so. You talk about Dodge, chevy started it, can we say SSR? I'm young so I have no Hemi fascination, but I like a lot of that wagon, I'd love it if they offered the 4.7 liter V8 in it.

TheFrog 10-06-2004 07:50 PM

I personally like small dispacement V8s, so I guess I'm not the least bit Mopar.

Why does everyone on this forum like to put down dodge and chevy trucks? I just don't get it! If they were so bad, WHY DO THEY STILL SELL SO MANY? I've heard as many good things about Ford as I've heard bad. Both Ford and Chrysler have been making trucks for years. I've seen some problems with Ford vehicles as well as Dodge vehicles. What makes one better than the other?

I can't say much about the other ford trucks....but the '97 and '98 F150s had many problems. The most notorious being the doors cracking and gasket failure on the 4.2s. The worst thing about them is that if the truck is out of warranty, Ford has a habit of saying screw you, you bought it. Furthermore, the NEW 2004 F150 has had numerous problems, probably the most notorious being BRAKE FAILURE. There have been DEALER BUYBACKS because of state LEMON LAWS because there were problems and Ford couldn't fix it!!!!!

My dad had a Dodge Caravan that was 5,000 miles outside of warranty and blew a gasket....Chrysler paid for it. My sister has a '99 Plymouth Breeze, and the PCM went out 2,000 miles out of warranty. Chrysler is paying for it. Chrysler has problems with trannys, but they have a 70,000 mile warranty, and they normally don't weasel out of it, either. What makes Dodge worse than Ford? I bought my F-150 because it was a good truck for a good price, not because it was a Ford. :-tap

And someone said that at least when ford resurrects a name from the past, they put some substance in it. Hmmmmm...... The Dodge Charger is coming back next year, with more power than the Ford Mustang or anything else Ford has to offer. Ford has nothing to compare to the new 300C and the Magnum R/T....As fast as a mustang, with the interior room of a Crown Vic.... :-fire

All I'm suggesting is respecting each car in it's own right, and not assuming Ford is best in everything. I agree, Ford makes good trucks, but if everyone else made such crap, they would be out of business!!!!!

I'm off my rant now, and I fully expect to get flamed for it. :D

FordLariat 10-06-2004 08:43 PM

Last month there was an article in 4 Wheel and Off Road magazine that talked about the Ford HOS edition that will probably be a Bigfoot edition when it finally comes out, and it's coming out just to show how much better that Ford can do than Dodge. They said that they saw it on the Rubicon testing, and they said it was the 4th or 5th prototype they have seen, so Ford is evidently working hard on this. I can't wait to see what's up with this truck if it comes out. That is good that Dodge rolled out the newest hunk-o'-junk, it will make others bring out trucks to compete. That is, if there's enough market.

superrangerman2002 10-06-2004 08:44 PM

Personally I don't see any Earth shaking revalations with the Power Wagon, even after reading about it in my Peterson's 4x4 mag. I didn't catch any thing about electric sway bars in Peterson's....I'm sure they would have mentioned it.

Other than the shiny name badge, and a winch, I fail to see how it is any different than and other 3/4 ton Dodge.

And lets not mention the famous Hemi motor (fine in a 1/2 ton, but a dog in a 3/4 ton), I would rather see the V-10 they used to have than a under sized gas pig.

Hopefully mpg is not an issue for future buyers, especially at $2 a gallon.
