Help! ecu trouble

my 97 2.3L manual ranger just died on me the other day. luckly i was in front of a repair shop that i've visited before. they said it was the ecu. So, I got another one now the truck will start but i wont stay on for more than a sec. i replaced the fuel filter. the truck will run if i give it gas and after its warmed up for a bit it will stay on a little longer before it dies out again then i can restart it and as long as i push the gas pedal a little bit it will stay on please help. thanks

Welcome to FTE!
Have the codes read.
Does it smell like it's getting way too much gas? Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator to see if there's gas in the line.
AL. :-wink

Thank you for your help. I am trying to get my truck up and running because I am a poor college student.
