How hot does your truck run...

hey-

In the process of fixing up this truck that I now drive, I replaced the ECT sensor in hopes of chasing down a running rich problem. Well the problem is now solved, and she runs like a champ, but the temperature gauge is worrying me.

It moves up when I first start, but then stops before it even gets to the N in NORMAL, and although it wiggles a little bit, it doesnt ever get warmer than that, even after spirited runs up hills.

I wonder if the truck could possibly really just be running very cool, or perhaps the sensor I put in is wrong, and putting out a different range of resistance... I am worried more that maybe the computer thinks the temperature is one thing when its really another, and is consequently not running as effieciently as it could... any suggestions or input?

Thanks...

My 88 5.0 will never reach the N on normal - well it didn't until I came down to AZ and it was 125 degrees outside pulling a trailer! Then I discovered that the fan clutch was bad - new clutch and same deal, won't come up to the N.

I KNOW I have a good thermostat in it too, 195 degrees. It seems to be just the way the gauge works I guess...

The guage sender is separate from the ECT sensor for the computer. So as long as the ECT is good, the computer will have the correct info regardless of what the guage reads. My '87 doesn't get up to the 'n' either.

Mine is the same, never get to the N. Only one time it overheated, but thats beacuse the water leaked out :(
