1999 F150 flywheel teeth damaged
I have a 1999 Ford f150 with a 4.2 engine and automatic transmission. My starter seemed to grind (sometimes) during start so I decided to change the starter. After removal of the starter I noticed that the flywheel teeth are damaged. I installed a new starter only to have the same problem (grinding) so I guess the next step is flywheel change. My question is can I buy a flywheel from local auto parts store and swap...or is it a balanced item to the engine??? I noticed in the repair manual it stated to mark the wheel for exact installation position. But I will be changing it??? Anyone have any inputs....Can I swap flywheels without a problem????
