2004 Explorer XLT Door Panel Removal

Hello all.... I plan on replacing the 4 factory speakers in my new '04 XLT Sport... My brother is helping me with the job and basically we're looking for any tips on removing the door panels.... I tried searching the forums for a FAQ or previous thread specifically for the '04 explorer but no luck.... If anyone could direct me to a guide or provide me with door panel removal instructions it would be GREATLY appreciated... I have not tried to remove them yet as i want to gain as much information as possible before attempting to do so to make sure the installation goes smoothly...

Thanks for your time...

Let's bump this matter.....

Hey All,
I'd like some guidance on this matter also....So let's bump this topic to the top, your input in this matter is appreciated. The only difference for me is that I have the 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer system. I looked at the rear subwoofer panel and was unable to figure how to take it out without totally destroying the interior panelling. I guess the whole door panel has to come off to access the door speakers!

Thanks for the help.

I know this isn't the best picture, but are your guy's doors the same as what mine looks like on my '02 Explorer XLT? If so, I can tell you how to get the door pannels off.

Okay, then all you should have to do is remove the two srews along the bottom of the door pannel, then pry off the piece of trim that is behind the door handle. Get a screwdriver and pry up along the area between the speaker grill and the trim piece as shown by the arrow in the picture. Once that trim piece is off you can lift up the piece that has all the buttons for the windows and locks controls and disconect the wires from it. Once the windows and locks buttons piece is off there is a screw under there that need to be removed that is holding the door pannel to the door. Once you take that screw off all you have to do is lift up (vertically) and then pull the door pannel away. After you do it the first time it is really easy. No more push tabs, and you only have to take out 3 screws. It's a pretty nice setup.

If you want to see where I hid my passive crossovers on the front doors under my door pannels and other pics of the stereo, you can check out some pictures HERE.
