Need help with my ZX2 belt routing
Well as the thread title says I need a little help with some serpentine belt routing. I had to put a new alternator in my 99 ZX2 and have completely lost the routing for the belt. Does anyone have a diagram or know where I can find one on the web. I thought there is usually one under the hood somewhere but there isn't in this case. The owners manual shows nothing and the Haynes manual has been pretty much wothless through out this task. I wish I had a chiltons for this thing too. Also, I forgot to unhook the battery before I started and when I was disconnecting the alternator wire I think I popped the main 100 amp fuse under the hood. Anyone happen to know how these fuses come out? Manual says there is a screw holding the main one in but I figure I would ask while I am at it. I have never had to deal with these types of fuses before so I don't want to break anything. Thanks! :-X22

Man I hate putting belts on those things. Oh well.
http://www.clubfte.com/users/racerguy/zetecbelt.gif I dont know which type of fuse you have. The Maxi fuses just pull right out. I think that some of the other big ones have nuts on the bottom side but I cant find it in tha manual. You might have to lift up the fuse box to look. |
The section of the fuse box where those "bolt-in" fuses are should unclip. You should be able to lift that fuse assy just enuf to reach in and loosen the screws. The first time I ran across those in a Contour I tried to just pull the fuses like any other fuse... -OOOooops :(
ALWAYS pull the neg battery cable when working on vehicles! |
Thanks Dave! With that diagram I had that belt back on within a couple of minutes. I was close, but had the belt going around a couple of pulleys wrong that gave me too much slack. As far as the fuse goes, it has two little bolts that take a 10mm wrench. one is visible to the front of the car, the other has a cap over it on the other side. I don't think the belt was anywhere as near as bad with the correct routing as swapping that alternator was. Its things like this to why we waited until just recently to buy a front wheel drive car. Of course its only our second with all of the electronic gizmos. The other is our Ranger and that is still new enough to where all it needs are normal routine maintenence.

Ford ZX2 Escort bely routing diagram
New member. Racerguy posted a diagram/photo on the 2.0 liter Ford ZX2 Escort belt routing. It shows numbers. Could you tell me which numbered item is the tensioner? I need to change the belt on my wife's car. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum busman :)
Number 4 is the tensioner. |
You can usually figure it out if you remember smooth pullies go to the smooth side of the belt, and grooved pullies go to the groove side.
A simple test light will tell you if the fuses are good. jd |

Ok. I can't find a repair manual for my Ford 2002 Zx2. Thanks so much for the diagram of the serpentine routing diagram. Needed it! Where can I find diagrams &/or repair manual for future needs? Thanks!

You're welcome :)
You can find used manuals on CD or DVD on eBay. Sometimes people also sell paper manuals there too but they go for quite a bit more money. You can buy new manuals and online manual subscriptions at www.helminc.com |

Welcome to the forum Fordgirl1961 :)
If you have any other Ford related problems you will probably find someone on there that can help, if you don't want to ask your family. |
