What does a 2.3 really weigh?
Does anyone know how much a 2.3 Ford engine weighs? I have been told over 400 pounds and I have a hard time beliving that as I have pulled these 2.3 engines out of several cars and trucks in the past. Any accurate info?
Thanks, Clayton |
I also would like too know this. I wish someyone knew.

Well, you need to do a little research to find
an accurate weight, start here... http://www.bacomatic.org/~dw/index.htm |
Thats cool and thanks but they rate the iron Lima 2.3 from 307 pounds to 418 pounds on that site. And they rate the turbo at 450 pounds. There has to be someone out there who would has actually weighed one. Perhaps a 2.3 guru or racer .............anyone.

Yea that site did give a vaig idea. I did do some research, and came up with nada on weight, but did find lots of hp and torque ratings.

Fairly accurate Weights of motors, as installed per factory
The Lima is 418 Lbs. The turbo version was 450 lbs.
Here is the site for that and more motors, if you are looking like me, for comparable swaps: Engine Weights II |
The basic engine less acc. is a bit over 300 lbs. After you add the PS, Alt. AC. etc. along with their mounting brackets, the exhaust manifold, your looking at over 400 lbs.
The weights "mdneau" posted are about right for a fully dressed ready to run engine. |
The Engine Weights II shows 418 for the 2.3, but 305 for the 2.8 V6. Seems strange.
