97 Explorer Lift Kit
 

I have a 97 Explorer and would liek to lift it about 3 inches. As far as I can tell there is no kit for anything newer than 95. Anyone know anyway I can make this happen?

Try going to the fourwheel drive shops if you have any around town. Or you can buy a 4x4 mag there is an almost endless supply of parts dealers to chose from. Or try to contact them on line, most of the dealers will have web sites that you can visit. Try this one its the only one I can remember off the top of my head, www.performanceaccessories.com this is a manufacturer if body lifts that com ewith good instructions. If you only look at big mags like Summit and such they only bother stocking the most popular. I just ordered a 2002 Sport-trac and the above web site has a body lift for it. Hope this helps.

No one makes a lift kit for the '95-'97 Explorers due to the torsion bar mounts being welded on. In '98 Ford started bolting them on so Trailmaster makes a 4" suspension lift for the '98-'01 Explorers. It can be easily modified to work with the '95-'97 Explorers by a competent 4x4 shop. It is pricy though, about $1300 for parts only.

You can also use a 3" Performance Accessories body lift from the Ranger on your Explorer. You would need kit #853 ('93-'97 Ranger) with the front bumper brackets from kit #883 ('98-'00 Ranger) or kit #883 with the steering extension from kit #853. Use whichever method results in the lowest cost. Either way you will have to create your own rear bumper lift brackets. They are easy though, just two pieces of 3"x7" 1/4" plate steel with 4 9/16" holes drilled in them. You also need to come up with some extra bolts since the bolt lengths aren't the same between the Ranger and Explorer. I used kit #853 and made my own bumper lift brackets on my '97 4x4 Sport. I paid about $125 for my kit.

Finally, you can turn your torsion bars up to gain 1"-1.5" in the front. You would then use Warrior Shackels part #153 to lift the rear to match. This would cost you about $50. I did this as well. I have 32" tires on it now, and will be going to 33" tires when these wear out.
