Driver's Side Grab Handle

I KNOW this has been addressed, BUT has anyone recently installed an A-Pillar grab handle on the driver's side of a Super Duty, 1999 to be exact? If so, where did you get the parts for it? (Preferably online since my local dealer is BAD NEWS)... Are the parts the same ones used on the passenger side or do you have to order parts for a 2003? And does anyone have any pics of the completed project? THANKS!!!

I heard there was a guy here named Gayford who had that done. :D No disrespect, Ken. Anyway, I did it. I bought the handle from Ford. Remove a-pillar cover and cut out to match the back of the handle and drilled holes in the pinch weld. The handle was a pass. side for my 02' and it was around $40.

Just ordered the stuff from Ford and it should be here in a few days. Total was $33.95. Sounds like a pretty simple install, huh? Thanks for the reply.

You will find when you get the handle that there is a relieved area around the back of the attachment points on the handle which you have to cut out of the a-pillar plastic. I did a poor job and ended up having to buy another a-pillar cover.

02SS - did you have to cut holes in the a-pillar molding or just drill through them?

cwb 07-13-2004 12:47 PM

He doesn't know because he hasn't done it. :D You have to cut an odd shaped hole in the molding. Two,actually. And besides, I am not mean, I am just positive attitude challenged.

I thought he was the one that replied until I scrolled up - sorry! Thanks for all the info CWB. Much appreciated!

If I am feeling generous I will post some pics. Maybe the big, scary moderator will make it a sticky along with the back up lights. Mr. Moderator?

In case anyone was wondering what I finally did on this, I ordered new grab handles and pillar moldings for a 2003 SD. I replaced both handles and only had to drill a few new holes. The drivers side didn't have the welded nuts in the metal, so I just used self tapping bolts. On the passenger side, I was able to use the 2 existing holes on the bottom of the pillar and used the self tapping bolts at the top. Now my 1999 looks just like a factory installed 2003! Both handles are very sturdy and everything matches! I like the new handles better because they are longer and a lower profile than the 99 handle. Total cost of handle upgrade was approx. $100.
