Ignition Cylinder Removal
I have a 94 ford explorer and I'm tring to remove the ingnition Cylinder in the steering colum. There is suppose to be a push rod or pin you press in while the key is in the run possiton and then it should slide right out. The problem is I can't find the pin to push in so that the cylinder can be removed. This is a 94 ford exploer I've looked all around the cylinder and I still can't find this damn thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to FTE!
Unfortunately you have posted this Question in the general Cconversation forum, where tech questions aren't allowed. Please post your question in the corresponding forum to your question. In your case, that would be the Explorer forum. You might take some time and cruise around the web site to see where everything goes. I will move it over there. Again , Welcome to FTE! Ignition Cylinder Removal
You are in luck. I just replaced mine last week.
Use a long, thin phillips screwdriver with a blade 1/4 inch wide and about 6 inches long. There is a hole going upwards at about a 45 degree angle just under the tilt lever on the right side of the steering column. With the switch in run position, slide the screwdriver into the hole and push while slightly rocking the key back and forth and pulling outward. When the pin releases, the cylinder should slip right out. To install new cylinder, rotate the key till you can depress the pin by hand then slide into the hole. Rotate the key to off and the pin will be engaged. PS I bought a replacement cylinder for $16 and took it to a lock shop and had it re-keyed to my original keys for an additional $25. Dialtone |
