New Spring Woes - Need Advice Please...
'96 F250 PSD CC 4x4 SB
After looking at numerous options for getting my truck's front end back to level, I decided to go with new, factory springs. I have a buddy with a shop and he buys from a Ford dealer here in Atlanta. List on each leaf was $240.00 but his price/my price was $184.00 each. Each of these leaf's come with new bushings and my plan was to put them on and then add a leaf to each when I had some extra time and $'s. One of the options I looked at was re-arching each leaf and then adding a leaf. The price for this was around $400 and the spring shop doing the work advised that tapered leaf springs had a tendancy to break and if this happened I would be buying a new leaf as they would not take responsibility. With all this said, my dilemma is that I have been waiting almost two weeks for the springs from the Ford Dealer. - reason given: "coming from Detroit..., don't know when..." Anyone been down this road and if so, are there any other options for new leaf springs other than from the dealer? I do not want to lift, only level, and I am trying to maintain as close to factory ride as I can. Thanks for your help. Jim |
Just did this to my '96, I would thin a city as large as Atlanta would have non-dealer springs available. Midwest Spring in Denver supplied mine for under $200 per side. I would get polurethane bushings for the shackels too.

Thanks. I have heard that the poly bushings get hard when it freezes and in turn can crack. Has anyone else seen this?

That's interesting about the poly bushings. Hadn't heard that but would like to know if it's true. I used them because when changing out my springs the shackel rubber bushings were all distorted, cracked and worn out while the spring bushings still looked pretty good. So I figured I'd use a tougher bushing in a high wear area.
