What oil to use in F-150 2004
I live in Switzerland and it seems that 5W-20 oil is hard to get over here. My Ford garage recommends to use 5W-30 with my new Lariat.
One oil importer also said that in Europe the speeds are usually higher (I guess referred to Germans highways -- NO speed limit) so I should use a higher viscosity oil like 5W-30 or 40. Although I don't drive usually very fast about 50 to max .70 milesph on the highways. I think my driving style is more "stop and go and stop.." Can anyone help? |
I would use the 5w30 if it meets the ford spect number in your owners manual. There is not much difference between 5w20 and 5w30.

I'm gonna switch to Mobil 1 Syn 5-30 at about 1200 miles.
Does not void the warranty either. |
I will also be changing to Mobil One Synthetic 5w-30. Only I am waiting until the first oil change at 3,000. I read somewhere that it is good to use conventional oil for the first 3,000 to let the gaskets seal and such...

I switched to mobil 1 5w-30 at 3000 miles. No problems at all. The engine runs just a hair cooler and even runs about 250 RMP lower believe it or not. Before you change oil, look closely a all your gagues, then look again after oil change.

Oil viscosity can not affect engine RPMs. Only gearing and tire size will affect engine RPMs.

I just changed mine to Mobile 1 0w-20. It meets Fords 5w-20 requirements. I must say..that is some thin oil!!!!

I use Royal Purple Synthetic only. I don't know if you can get it over there but it's one of the best. I live in Florida so I use 10W30 because of the weather.
