'83 F250 460 to diesel swap
I'm looking for a 6.9 diesel engine, doesn't have to run but must be fairly complete. I'm planning to swap my 460 out for a diesel. This 460 is in good shap approx. 75.000 miles on it, wich I will get rid of after the diesel implant.
Anyone in Co having a old 6.9 diesel laying around. Bert |
I don't have a 6.9 for sale, but I did read an article in one of the 4x4 mags about a Cummins install in an '88 or '89 F250. I'll try to find it. For some reason, they said the conversion was easier. Also, as a former 6.9 owner and current Cummins owner, I would definitely look at the Cummins.

Thanks for the reply, I don't see why a Cummis would be easier but if you could find that article please let me know.

Here ya go...
Everything you wanted to know about putting a Cummins into a Ford. Parts, kits and help. http://www.fordcummins.com/ |
I've been looking through old issues to find the article, still haven't found it. One of the big reasons they went Cummins is because apparently the 5.9 needs only 6 wires hooked up to run. They used the wiring harness of the Ford and made it work with the Cummins.
I can tell you that I put over 300,000 miles on a 6.9 and had very few problems. It was a lousy cold starter though, and that was here in Seattle. The Cummins is a much better starter and I think it is a heck of alot stronger. You my want to look around, up here the 83 - 89 6.9 diesel trucks are pretty cheap to buy. I have seen several under $3000.00. Rob |
Still looking for a Ford 6.9 to put in my F250. I want to do the job myself and not spend thousands of dollars for a shop. If you know of a 6.9 in any shape , please let me know.
