96 PSD smoke&loss of mileage

Anyone have any ideas on this one? My dealership is stumped and warranty is almost over....:(
I have had this truck for a year and a half. The first year it got 18+ on freeway and 15 or so in town, unloaded.
Six months ago, it started blowing blue smoke at startup and wont quit until it is at operating temp. The most oil it has lost is one quart in 3,000 miles. The mileage has also gone down. 15 or less on Freeway and 13 or 12 in town.
Same driving habits, 62 to 72 on freeway, an shift between 2,000
and 2,200RPM.
The local dealership has rebuilt 3 injectors, replaced Orings and, tried new sensors an processor. All with no results.
Thank you,
Brimorri

The earlier injectors (first 3 digits are 187 for non California applications) had a galling problem between the barrel and sleeve. If any part of the "feed back" system (sensors) is malfunctioning it should either give you a check engine light or store the failure codes in the computer. If that is not the case, I'd have to say your injectors have crapped out on you (which is probably why the dealer rebuilt 3 of them). You are at the mercy of the dealership here. I would insist they replace all 8 injectors with NEW (NOT REBUILT) ones. The newer models have an upgraded (first 3 digits 551) injector which is also quieter (so they say) but I don't think they can be used in the earlier applications (exhaust emmisions). The point is, the 551 have a teflon coated barrel and sleeve which has abated the galling problem. It is a design problem which should have been addressed earlier than it was. If you have the 187's replaced with new ones there is no absolute guarentee that the new ones won't gall somewhere down the road. I hope this is of some help.
