Idea's for our first official meeting?

Ok West Virginia, any idea's on when and where we could get together? I think it would need to be in a central location so we can get as many people to attend as possible. We can post our idea's and then have a vote? Please let me know what you think.

I work sometimes on the Monongahela National Forest, if you need some info about gathering spots (campgrounds, park areas, etc.) around there, the central part of the forest, let me know and I can see about getting some info from the Forest Service, I dont exactly know what all they could provide, info wise, but I could check into it if you wanted. :-tap

Thanks mds01, I'm trying to get some idea's on when and where people would want to meet. That sounds like a great place!

MSD01 that sounds good! the higher the elevation (cooler weather) the better! Some place to hike and fish would be a plus and generally outdoors area/activities.

I live just about as close to Ohio as you can get, so not driving isn't an option. With that said, anyplace would be good for me. Late June or after the 4th of July would be good. The way my shift runs, week day or weekend is good!

If we get several people to go, maybe we can get a discount at one of the lodges? Just an idea?

Ill start gathering up some info, Ill be down on the forest next week working, and Ill start stopping by the ranger stations on each district and get some info, I can scan the stuff into my computer or xerox it and send it off (snail mail) to whoever wants it. :-X22

Wow! The possibilities are endless in WV.

Greenbrier River is nice, so is Canaan Valley. It all depends on what kind of activities you want. Has anyone, other than me been 4-wheelin' on the valley floor? I did it years ago, I'm not sure whether you still can but, it was a real experience. Great camping, lots of wildlife, real wilderness!

mds01 05-19-2004 09:26 PM

Dont forgot Dolly Sods, Cranberry Glades, Seneca Rocks, Laurel Fork Wilderness, on Middle Mountain Road, some places Ive been. :-X22

About 10 miles outside of Elkins (at the end of the 4 lane) going toward Seneca is a great family campground! It is close to a lot of acitivities.
Then you have Stonewall jackson and Burnsville!

Ok, everyone were getting some great idea's on where we can meet, how about some time's??? I would recomend we do a one day thing at first so we can get to know each other, then after the so-called ice is broken we can plan something longer. What do you guy's think??? What do you think of a big cookout at one of the parks? Everyone could bring something and we could go from there? :-X22

A cook out and 1 day event would be great. Again anywhere is OK. My wife asked if this was a guy thing or not. I said, should be a couple event. As for a date June is out for me, we are having a litter of Great Pyreense pups in June. More on that later! After July 4th would be good.
Stonewall and Burnsville is close to the center and a shelter could be reserved for the day!

Ok, Do we want to shoot for the second weekend in July? Sat or Sun? How about make it Burnsville lake? That seems to be in the center of everyone? Please give me your opinion as soon as possible so I can try to reserve a shelter.
