What is the rarest 73-79 Ford truck?

I was wondering what the rarest 73-79 Ford truck would be. I know the 79 Indy Pace trucks are rare. I think they only made 500 of them. I think an even rarer truck to find would be a 77-79 with the "Free-wheeling" package featuring the special paint job with rainbow tape stripes. I haven't seen one of these in years.

I like to think it is my 73 F600 with a original equiptment Ford backhoe mounted on the back of it.I have never seen another one like it.

We have a few Chaser trucks around here. They are Orange and White. They were some kind of hot air ballon chaser trucks. Probably something to do with the great balloon race here on Derby week.
I have also seen a picture of a F350 Indy Pace Tow Truck. It's painted just like the regular pace trucks.

i would say the 1976 bicentennial truck. it has a flag on the doors and "1776-1976" under it. some had an eagle on them also.

John, There is one of those in my Town.
I saw it 2 days ago with the owner & another female polishing it up.

I thanked her for making her truck sparkle again.

I'll get a picture of it tomorrow .

freewheelin

Johnt, take a look at my gallery. I've got a freewheeling 1/2ton. I've never seen another black one around. Seen lots of bronco's with the package, and also several white trucks with it but never a black one.

F-600 crewcabs are pretty rare, I'v only seen mabey three, and I have one.

there are several free-wheeling editions around here, in various conditions, and several bi-centenial or spirit trucks around too, there is a guy in sacramento with one of every edition of that special, maverick, mustang, pinto F-series, and ranchero I think.

my F-600 was painted with explorer striping and hood ornament, but I seriously doubt its stock.

I'd have to say it might be my 1977 Ford F-350...

351m,4spd,4.88 gear's 34x9.50r16.5's... only up grade i did was the RV cam and a 500cfm 2bbl instead of old 300cfm Motor craft.

it came with 34x9.50R16.5 straight tread on from and semi aggressive the rear i swapped on all 6 super swapper TSL's.

it's a dump truck with dual 2 stage ram's.

it will hold 14,000-16,000 pounds and cruze 65-67MPH allday long and get 13MPG.
water temp never hit's over 170*f . Oil PSI sit's at 47psi hot at idle...
truck is pushing 320,000 miles and engine has almost 280,000miles on it so i'll be do it a complete rebuild and some upgrading, like little bigger cam higher compression like 10.2-10.4:1 with like a 292*dur 525Lift cam.
then i might swap the 500cfm 2BBl carb for a 670CFM 2BBL TBI unit the holley commander950 setup.

i use SAE60W AMSOIL synthetic oil in all my truck's stuff seem's to work well i get lot's of miles out of my engine's..

the only rare truck that we have is a 74 F350 Super Camper Special... from what I've seen, if its free of rust, its extremely rare....:D

JSMConstruction 05-03-2004 02:07 AM

Normally only Them Big Block GMC V-6's run that many mile's as fare as 60's and 70's gas truck engine's go...

But 2 out of my 3 FORD's will stay with any GM truck..... My 1965 F-700 and my 77 F-350 will stay with any GM or Mopar...My poor 61 F-500 comes up a bit short in Pulling power, The poor old 223 is tired....

My poor Dodge's are Bring up the rear in the relaibilty race.....

Matts72 05-03-2004 02:55 AM

our 74 has 366,000 on the clock, original tranny (C6) and engine (460) towed a 22,000 lb grain grinder and hopper everyday

cool fords

What was the name of those trucks that had the little oval back windows
I think they were all stepsides as well.
I havent seen one in years but there used to be two of them in the town i grew up in they were both red they kinda looked like fords answer to the little red wagon.
Also I have a 78 4x4 150 with a 351 m it has 326,000 miles on it
Its tired but it still gets me to work every day, it was my dads truck and its always had faithful care.
It uses about a quart between changes but still runs great

Has anyone seen power windows on these vintage trucks? I'd like to install PW if anyone has any ideas.
