1979 f250 16.5 x8 rims

hello,

i need info. i have a 1979 f250 with 8 lug 16.5 x8rims on it. I want to go to 16" rims. I was told that i could use 8 liug rims from any ford 250 up to the year 1996.and also does anyone know for sure if the 16" rims will clear the brake caliper and any other factory suspention parts on the truck.

Thanks For the help,
tom

I'm not sure of the backspacing but the previous owner had put on 305/75-16's on a 16" American Racing steel wheel. These are on my '79 F-250 and they seem to work fine. And yes, all 8 lug Ford wheels will fit your truck until the Super Duty years of '99 and up since they went to a 8x170mm pattern versus the old standard of 8x6.5

You can use either the 80's-early 90's factory Ford 16"x6" or 16"x7". Direct bolt on with no issues. If you go aftermarket, make sure they are the correct back spacing, otherwise most any 16" aftermarket rim should work too.

i've been told that ANY 8 lug rim from a light duty truck will interchange between brands. my 75 has the big dual piston calipers and they fit fine.

The Fords & older Dodges have larger hubs then GM, so keep that in mind when using stock rims....& the Super Duty's are metric, not the 8x6.5 pattern you have.
