What is an F.I.P.L.

I was doing research on my tranny and I found a really cool troubleshooting guide; http://www.jasperengines.com/flowtran.pdf. The flow chart mentions something about a Fuel injection Pump Lever Sensor for Diesel's. Anybody know what that is and where it is located?

It is a vacuum (1983-1986) or electronic (1987-1994) regulator located on the side of the injection pump. Its basic fuction is to tell the tranny how much throttle you are at. These can also be adjusted to obtain different shift characteristics.

So does that mean that I do not have one on my 96 PSD?

Yes, because PSD's do not have mechanical fuel pumps.

You have HEUI injectors.

What would your FILP have to do with your Transmission? Also, could you please tell me what it looks like and where it is located?

Thanks:)

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Oct-02 AT 11:37 PM (EST)]It is called a "Fuel Injection Pump Lever" It is basically a throttle position sensor just like the ones that gas vehicles have. It is located on the (if you are standing near radiator in front of truck) middle of the engine, top of it. there is a plug in with 3 wires attached to it. It should be the top most front part of the engine. If you find the throttle cables going to the injector pump, mash the accelerator down and on one side you have the cables and on the other is the FIPL switch. It has to be cailbrated so dont remove it if you can. It makes the trans. computer (right below the master brake cyl.) tell it how much the accerator is pushed down to regulate shift points.
