91 Bronco Key ingnition
Need some help with my 91 Ford Bronco. The ignition switch went bad the other day. I put the key in and it turned only the radio on and wouldn't start the truck. I replaced the ignition (lock and tumbler), I was so pumped only $15 but guess what. It didn't fix the problem! I turn the key and still no response. The funny part is the switch has no recoil in it. The key turns very soft like it's missing a spring or something. I took the steering wheel off, etc. with the hopes of seeing something broken but didn't see anything obvious.
Anyone have any ideas? |
Are you sure that your ignition went bad?

sounds like the starter rod in the column is bent. Mine's been replaced 3 times already. Finnaly mounted a push button on the dash. i just turn the key to turn on the ignition and use the push button to crank the engine.

Sounds like a classic case of the "horseshoe thing" inside the column breaking. There's some posts on this thing breaking in the 87-96 F series section. I don't know what exactly it's called, but they break so commonly our local Ford parts man keeps them right behind the counter so they are right on hand.

thanks for the advice, it sounds like what I have going on.
Any ideas where I can get a drawing of the starter rod? |
After the 3 time with the rod. I put My push button on the fuse cover panel.

I have been using the push button technique for over a year now. I would like to fix the problem someday, however I am not sure how to go about it. I have a complete junkyard steering column to drop in, however it seems like a lot of work when I can just replace a small part.
