Where is the Mass Air Flow sensor on 94--302

I have a 94 302 5 speed 4x4 I would like to know where the MAF is located. A buddy of mine told me that is why i am getting poor milage 8mpg. Is that true? I have changed 02 sensor, plugs cap rotor, engine temp sensor the one that goes to comuter. Please help me. The inside of the tail pipe looks like a desiel.
Thanks in advance,

Adrian

Been awhile since I seen a new model but my '96 was just after the filter box. Square with a connetor attached to it.

Thats where it is. But I doubt thats your issue. You would get a check engine light if the sensor was bad. Have you checked your fuel pressure? It's possibly your pressure regulator. Have your pressure checked.

Not really, I almost never get a code for the maf sensor. It may be dirty and contaminated and will never set a code, but will give you fits on driveability problems. Including fuel mileage!

That is where I thought it is but it isnt there??? It goes from the filter box to the tubes that go to the throttle body??? It isnt throwing any codes?? Fuel pressure is good with new regulator.

If it's not there, then you don't have a MAF equipped truck. The problem is elsewhere. Try pulling the codes and see what you come up with.

adrianlovessnow 03-30-2004 10:30 PM

The Ford dealer said their are no codes??? I dont know I am clueless

You can check for yourself - go to http://fordfuelinjection.com and click on "Getting Codes" to find out how. Check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is working properly, and also test fuel pressure to see where it is running.

I will check for codes this weekend? any other suggestions. It has new fuel regulator and pressure is good.

Next thing I would do would be to test the MAP sensor and the injectors, and the related wiring. There could be an injector sticking open and flooding things out. How do the plugs look?

adrianlovessnow 03-31-2004 12:46 PM

The plugs looked good they were a light brown color. :9
Thanks I appriciate your comments. I am learning and it is helping.

adrianlovessnow 03-31-2004 12:58 PM

Could be the MAP

The problem may be the MAP? any thoughts on that? How should I test it??

EPNCSU2006 03-31-2004 04:54 PM

Have you checked the timing recently? Retarded timing can cause poor economy and poor performance. A Haynes manual will have the procedure for testing the MAP sensor. It tells you that with the key on, engine off (no vacuum) that the MAP signal wire should show 5V, which is incorrect. The orange wire (VREF) should have 5V, but the blue wire (MAP signal wire) should have 2.5V on it with the sensor plugged in.

I finally checked for codes and got a code 133 koeo. I have no clue what that is does any body know?

Thanks

I don't think a 133 is possible. http://fordfuelinjection.com/codes
