f150 STX Need flowmaster info please!
 

I just got my dream truck a ford f 150 STX and wanna beef up the noise . i heard flowmaster is the best but dont know anyone who has em. can anyone tell me the style and flavor i need to make my truck sound like iit has some testosterone?!?! thanks alot! Homer

Two weeks ago I got a 2-chamber Flowmaster 40 Series, single in, dual out muffler with 2 3" chrome echo tips. It sounds really, really nice. At idle there is a good, low rumble, that just gets louder and louder. I wouldn't want my exhaust any louder, because on the freeway you do constantly hear this unless the radio is up. Total price w/installation was $411.

Mine is a 2004 F-150 STX Supercab.

i got almost the same thing as bigwtx, single in, dual out 40 series, but I got 3.5 " dual tips dumped out the sides. it sounds really good. got mine installed for 250 including tax :)
forgot to mention, the brackets, muffler, piping and tips were included in the 250

wow please dont go Flowmaster. go with Magnaflow and bypass the nasty loud drone and youll gain power not lose as with Flowmaster. i did my setup for $200 i added a muffler and since your truck is new and the piping is stainless steel you should keep your stock piping and add a nice 3.5" tip

MiamiE, What do mean by nasty loud drone? I have flowmasters on a 92 Bronco and love them but am looking to buy a new F150 and don't want to make it to lound in the cab. Do you have any info like model?

i would go with hooker. they sound similar to magnaflow but much cheaper. i had dual 3" on my 76 highboy and it sounder awesome. best of all no flowmaster drone

Lose power with Flowmaster? That would not be good. I want to "beef up the noise" myself but not at the cost of power. What is it about Flowmaster that causes a loss of power? They claim HP gains like everyone else.

I was planning to buy their new 40 series cat back w/dual rear pipes.

Don't expect to gain or loose for that matter any horsepower from just a muffler. In most cases if you increae the size of the exhaust without doing anything to increase engine air intake you are going to loose power reguardless of what brand muffler you use.

If your only looking for better sound and don't plan on doing anything to the engine then almost any aftermarket muffler will make any V8 sound better. I personally have liked the sound of Flowmasters on every vehicle I've ever heard them on... my 2nd choice would be DynoMax. I would change just the muffler and add a nice tip or install a complete cat-back system from a known company.

People who goto their local exhaust shop with their stock vehicle and tell them they want custom 3" exhaust are the ones loosing power. It's not something you'll have to worry about if your smart about it.

Obviously the cheapest route is to just change the muffler.

miami, can you provide proof there is a power loss with flowmasters? i would be willing to venture a guess that the power gain, although slight, is still there

I have noticed power gains from my Flowmasters, and they have dual 3" tips. It was my understanding that the more air the engine lets out the better. I also have a K&N Air Filter to assist in engine breathing.

from my own personal experience i will never own Flowmaster ever again. once you go Magnaflow i can say you never go back. at least that's the case for me.

As long as the Y-Pipe is still in place, that will be the biggest bottle neck in the exhaust system regardless of which muffler you put on. If you install a "true dual" system (and/or headers) without intake mods, such as a super charger, you could experience a power loss. Simply replacing the muffler would be less restrictive and should provide a few extra horses. I have no idea personally which brand provides more power.

Can someone tell me what one would not be to loud in the cab out on the highway?

A friend of mine has a Gibson on his truck. Not too loud, no drone while driving but when he accelerates hard it sound like pure evil.
