spark plugs shorting out
Hey everyone, does anyone know what would make a spark plug spark to the engine block while it's in place. I tried new everything and I still see blue glow at the base of the plugs.

I assum you replaced the wires and plugs. CLean up the threads a little bit with some wd-40, work the plugs in and out a bunch of times.

are the electrodes clean? is the plug wire in all the way? are you sure there the right plugs? tightened to spec? did you use silicone dielectric compound?
|
yes I did it all . I tried new plugs and then the old ones and noticed the same problem.

Could be a cracked spark plug. The spark will find the easiest path to ground, and through a crack to the block can be easier for it than jumping the gap. Be careful not to drop plugs when installing them and don't use any that you do drop.

That happened on #3 the last time I did a major tune up on my truck. It ate 3 spark plugs on that cylinder within a week. I spent a bunch of time trying to find out why, then on the 4th plug it ran fine and I quit messing with it. I'm guessing I got a bad batch of plugs because they all came from the same box. I returned all of them and the new box worked fine. Some butt head from Wal-Mart probably dropped them while he was stocking.
