f-700 with cummins

I went to the local diesal performance shop today and saw in the back a f-700. I never heard of one so I went and checked it out and what I saw was a 5.9 cummins motor in it. Why is this brand new f-700 powered by a cummins

johnsdiesel 03-22-2004 10:47 PM

The only engines available above the F550 are the Power Stroke, the 5.9 Cummins, and a Cat. Personally, I would take the Cat over the Cummins or Power Stroke.

Thanks I didnt know the cummins was put in fords

i didnt think the powerstroke was available above 550. Seems to me it would be unerpowered a bit. Guess its like putting a 5.4 in a 350 c/c dually.

The 444 is mild when put into the small Ford trucks. They turn the computer up when they put it into the 6-750. The only difference between the 4-550 and the 350 is the frame rails are straight and stronger and the GVRW is higher. The 6-750's are available with the 444, cummins, and the cat. The cat is the only engine that can come with the optional auto transmission (allison)

And the axles are larger, and the springs are larger, and the brakes are larger, and the 450/550 have 19.5" tires/wheels, etc.
Both the GVWR and GCWR are MUCH higher on the 450/550 than on the 350.

the gcwr on a 350 is 20,000# and on a well equiped 550 its 26,000#, not much higher, but yes higher.
So, do the 6/750's with powerstoke come with a "factory power tune"? If so, is it possiable for a 350 to use a 750 computer?

FarmerPhilCo 03-23-2004 03:17 PM

it is the same computer, just configured differently.

you can tkae your truck to an international dealer and they can reconfigure your computer

mjwhip2 03-23-2004 03:50 PM

What is different with the 6/750 tunes? Would it be safe to have IH recon the computer without any goodies (i.e. gauges, exhaust, etc.)?
Mike

you dont want to over do it. You can have them turn it up just a little but if you go any further you will want to beef up the drive train.

You can get the F550 with a 30,000 pound GCWR. I have one.

FarmerPhilCo 03-23-2004 10:38 PM

you have to have a cdl to drive your 550?

odd

f350xlt460 03-24-2004 05:46 AM

in VA i think you need a CDL for anything over 26,000
Casey, ive heard of that 30,000# package, whats different then the 26,000#?

I don't know the details about what's different. It was a selection when ordering, and since my trailer is about 22K, I got it!

And yes, I have a CDL to drive the truck and trailer.

FarmerPhilCo 03-24-2004 08:58 AM

oh, Im not doubting that you have your cdl and are capable of driving a rig, I just foud it odd that a truck that small could be set up over cdl thats all. It has to have springs and axles that are huge, my friend has a 550 roll-back and just about anything on the rear lift will make that squat.

and anything over 26,000 requires the driver to hold a cdl unless it is a registered farm use vehicle.
